What Is Going on with My Body?? Late Period? Negative Test?

I have a stressful situation going on here that I need some advice and help with. My DH had a vasectomy six years ago. He was born with only one kidney so he has only one vas. My cycle has always been irregular. My last cycle started 5/21/18 and lasted four days. I took a clear blue rapid result test yesterday and got a negative result. I am 35 years old. My aunt and mother both went through 'the change' at an earlier than average age. DH and I have three children already. I am having some normal period signs but feel I should have started four days ago at the latest. I know pregnancy is kind of far fetched with the given details but any advice to calm my nerves will be greatly appreciated. Just looking to see if anyone has been in a similar situation...?

What can I do next?

Could be any number of things, from the stress you mention to possible peri-menopause. Another not-so-uncommon occurrence is an anovulatory cycle, meaning you just don't happen to produce an egg. That's not necessarily related to menopause - it's just "one of those things." So if there's no egg, there's no follicle to release the hormones that control the cycles, and there can be an additional build-up of endometrial tissue (lining of uterus) because there's no "have a period, now!" notice. So, periods are late, and BTW they can be extra heavy/crampy when they finally come. Not dangerous, and your pregnancy tests will come out negative. I'm not saying this is what's going on, but my guess is, if you call your doctor, you'll get the "wait a week and let me know" sort of answer. I'm not saying that's what it is, just that it's a possible, non-urgent situation. Also, double check the one-kidney/one vas connection. And vasectomies can fail - it's not common, but it's possible, and it was in your husband's consent form.

We have no idea what's going on with your health. Everyone is different.

Go to your Dr, get routine blood work and testing done to figure out the issue.

Your doctor will have some good answers for you.
It could be peri menopause.

If you're 4 days late, you can take a pregnancy test. That said, cycles do tend to change with age so it may simply be a new normal starting.

Your comment about your husband caught my attention. "My DH had a vasectomy six years ago. He was born with only one kidney so he has only one vas."

Do you mean he was born with one testicle? The vas deferens go from the testicles to the urethra. If he has 2 testicles, he has 2 vas deferens to be cut during a vasectomy.

Having one kidney means having one ureter. The ureter goes from the kidney to the bladder. The ureters have nothing to do with a vasectomy.

There have been many questions on here (seems to be one of the most common ones ..) where moms have a husband with a vasectomy, and their periods are late. They ask if anyone has experienced this.

Stress can always make a period late. So worrying about this and googling isn't going to help. You must remember this from your twenties :)

No idea. Could be peri-menopause. Mine became irregular in my 40's. So did most of my friends'. If you hit it earlier, it's possible.

Vasectomies sometimes fail - of course you know that too. It's rare but a possibility.

I personally? Would not be worried. All the early symptoms of pregnancy can also be attributed to PMS (from what women describe on here) so maybe you're just about to get it.

I myself have had many late cycles in my life. If I'd taken a pregnancy test, I'd let it go for a week, and if I hadn't got it, I would take another or go talk to my doctor. Probably a good idea at this age anyhow.

You said your periods are irregular. So, how do you know you're 4 days late? I don't understand why a late or even a skipped period is stressful. Why are you now, 6 years later, considering pregnancy?

I had irregular periods. The difficult part for me was having to be prepared for a period. There are several reasons for irregularity. Mine worsened as I aged. Eventually, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. Later, with a cyst and then fibroids.

Do you have regular exams? I suggest you make an appointment to know what your body is or is not doing.
