Tips on Cleaning Noses...

Been there....still there with the youngest. I get the bulb and give them "kisses" (sqeeze and let go) all over their legs and arms and forhead. Then I do their nose. THey think it is is funny I give them the tissue and tell them to blow. I also let them put one on my nose. To get the crusties as you call them.....I get wet qtip and do their nose as they are doing their dolls nose. This works great for my girls! Good luck. I hate cold season!

My little girl (now 14 months) also doesn't like it but here are some things we have done to make it more pleasant:

1. When I was using the saline drops - I would let her hold the box and play with it. I told her she was helping Mommy. That seems to help and it gives her something to do.

2. We now use the Little Noses Saline spray and I still give her the box or a toy or something "hand sized" that we only use while she is on the changing table.

3. Boogie Wipes are amazingly useful.

4. Recognize that this is just one of many things that your child doesn't like but is good for them!

As long as it is not a nasal congestion, then I wet Q-tips and coat them with Vaseline to clean out the crusties and get some moisture in the little noses. That seems to work for me. Goodluck!

I always kept Q-tips around to clean the little noses. You can put a little vasaline on it if its very dry to moisturize and clean those little noses out rather quickly and without much hassle from a squirmy baby.

I used these all the way thru preschool. Training them early with this type of clean up takes just a quiet little moment in the bathroom with a nasty nose and everything will be done!

Saline and a suction bulb. I know they despise it, but that's just about it. If you can get your hands on the kind they use at the hospital, they work MUCH better. I recently purchased a battery operated suction device they now have at Toys R Us, but it just flat doesn't get the job done. I'm going to return it. I was very disappointed. I had high hopes. Look forward to hearing your other responses. My 6 mth old has chronic nasal congestion.

I hear ya sister!! Tryin' to get a bulb in a kids nose is like trying to stuff a cat in a bucket of water!!!

Last week, my daughter (and myself,unfortnetly) had a cold. I realized that using a wipe on the face is ok for occasional use, however, after a day or two of a runny nose, those things tend to dry out the skin. I found a wipe (at Walmart) called "Boogie wipes"...she actually didnt put up much fuss when I use those. They are super soft and , for some reason, smell like grapes :)

Also, have you ever noticed how SUPER strong kids become when youre tryin' to wipe their noses? Its like the same adrenaline a 98 pound woman gets while lifting a mac truck off a person!!!

They usually hate the bulb, just gotta do it. You don't say how old your child is. I actually used the syringe made to use on ears with the long tip....gotta be CAREFUL, only put the tip in a little bit but it suctioned so much better than the ones made for the nose.

Pay extra money and buy "PUFFS W/ LOTION" tissues. When you use toilet paper or cheap tissues, you will make his/her skin raw.

I would sometimes use a baby wipes when mine were that way. I would use them when I was changing their diapers.

I taught my daughter how to remove tissues from the box and I also taught her how to play peek a boo with them. She once emptied a most of a box of tissues when I was out of the room...oops. She likes tissues a lot better now. When the tissue is hiding her face I wipe her nose at the same time. I do the saline solution and bulb when she least expects it. It is over before she knows it. I also let her play with the bottle. When worse comes to worse my husband holds her down and I do what has to be done. I actually got a smile from her once after suctioning her nose because she could breath better.

My son hates the bulb syringe, too! A tip that seems to help is - I let him play with one while I try to suction his nose with the other - and I "pretend" to suction my own nose. It usually results in giggles! At this point, he is so interested in it that he doesn't realize I am suctioning his nose. ;-)

I also love to make a steam room in my bathroom. This always works whenever he has a cold. I just run the shower on the hottest setting with the bathroom door closed. Then we sit on the toilet and read books or play with toys while he breathes in the steam. Usually for 15-20 minutes if he is really congested. You can add a dollop of Vic's to the shower water, too. This usually losens the mucous and it just runs out of his nose and I just wipe it with a tissue.

When my little one is congested, I give her a warm bath and that usually brings out the snot. Then I wipe it with the washcloth.

if he constantly has a runny nose it might be allergies. the best way to clean a boogie nose is to get rid of the bogies. hope you find your answer.
