Hi!
I live on the North Side of Chicago and I am willing to travle to find a pediatrician who is educated about the pros and the CONS of vaccinations. I am planning to vaccinate "selectivly" when my daughter reaches the age of 5. I currently have a doctor that is doing the job but I am interested in finding someone who is educated, open minded and understands/sympathizes with a WHOLELISTIC approch to healthcare. I have put lots of time and energy into research on this subject and would like a doctor who is respectful of this type of mother.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be helpful!
Thanks,
M.

Dr. Fred Ettner and Dr. Lisa Simpson (1-###-###-####) don't like to vaccinate too soon or too much. My daughter is 10 months old and she got her first shot at 6 months, and only because she was going to day care at 7 months. She only gets one shot at a time, and I think she's had a total of 3 so far.

Dr. Minkus in Skokie. He's AWESOME!! He is really experienced, patient, supportive, available...

He supports selective vaccination, extended nursing etc..

He is the only ped. we talked to who suggested we start our daughter on sweet potato and avocado (NOT rice cereal)

Also, the office provides 24 hr coverage for emergencies.

We have been really happy with him, and I totally recommend him.

You can e-mail me if you have any specific questions about our choices regarding selective and delayed vaccines...

good luck,
D.

Hi,
Contact the Waldorf School in Chicago for a referral.
If you look around you will find that most schools will not allow your children to enroll and be present in school without "proper" medical attention.
Waldorf does not require vaccinations (to date, that I know of) and they not only support a holistic approach to family wellness but have a number of listings for a variety of professionals.
Good Luck

If you are looking for a pediatrician, rather than a homeopathic doc, we see Karen Wilson at Child & Adolescent Health Associates located at Clark and Oak. I have found that she is very open and non-judgmental about vaccination choices.

You MUST check out Homefirst ###-###-####. We've been with them for the past year and LOVE them!! There are three doctors there and they all support no vaccination. About 80% of the patients there are not vaccinated.

They have free vaccine awareness seminars every few months that you should also attend.

Call me if you want to talk more about it. My # is ###-###-####.

Years ago (about 25) my cousin used a homeopathist and her daughters are healthy adults. He is a regular physician: He gave the girls remedies instead of innoculations.
Dr. Joel Shepperd, M.D., Classical Homeopathy, Center for Integral Health, 400 E. 22nd Street, Suite F, Lombard, IL; ###-###-####

You can also contact Dr. Cathi Dunal, family physician, who practices integrative medicine. I don't know what her philosophy is about vaccination. Northbrook, IL. ###-###-####

Hi M.-I read all of the advice and I came across Dr. Ettner as well. He is in Evanston at St. Francis--same address and phone number that was already given. Just let me tell you how he helped us. I gave birth to my 4th child in Dec. I was supposed to have Catherine at home in the water tub but my water broke and I labored for 3 days so i had to go to the hospital. My daughter had low platelets and I honestly think it was from the pitocin. The hosp. pediatrician was a nightmare because I refused all medications, shots and antibiotics for Catherine. She told me I was gravely putting my daughter at risk and she refused to release her until another doctor would assume care. To make a long story short, Dr. Ettner (I got his name thru my midwife "A WOMAN"S PLACE" which was fabulous) and he called me on my cellphone at 6:30pm , assumed care for the baby and I was out of the hospital in 24.5 hours.

He is often referred here on Mamasource. The guy is great. He will support you what ever you choose!!

I started a discussion group because of my vast experiences in naturals. AND as a matter of fact I will be doing a discussion on vaccines on May 22nd-the pros, the cons and how to make sense out of all of the hoopla.

If ANYONE that is reading this and wants to get together-it is like minded moms sharing information. There is a NEED.

Make it great!! :)

T. L.

The bottom line is that I have 4 children and they are healthier than ever as are me and my husband.
