OMG Moments

So, last week, DH was on travel for work and I was eating late after I put LO down for the night. Apparently, in my sleep deprived and infected state, I didn't close the freezer door all the way. Uh oh ... Freezer was at 60 degrees when we discovered it ... 24 hours later. OMG ... Our freezer was packed with yummy things and now they're all off to the dump. (it was so warm in the freezer, some frozen croissants I bought at Trader Joe's were proofing IN THEIR BOX!) So, yesterday we were at Costco and today Wegmans trying to replace some of the things we lost. It's not cheap ... $600+ and the freezer is not back to where it was. DH is handling this VERY well; I'm the one beating myself up and he said since I am, he doesn't need to ;+}.

Anyone else have an OMG can't believe I did that moment to share? Anything you would HAVE to replace, because you can't stand to NOT have it in the house? Come on ... Help me feel a little better ....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

@theresa n - definitely an OMG! I was laughing with tears reading your post from last year!

@krista p - engineer husbands I understand all too well. It takes mine 45 minutes to hang a picture. God forbid it have 2 hooks ... That's an hour or more long excursion. I try to hang them myself.

@ sandy h - oh ... Ow. Hope your bruise heals soon!

@ Cheryl o - bright side .... At least I don't have to defrost!

Last summer we (as in my husband, but i stood and watched him and ignored my gut instinct to nag him) hooked the boat & trailer up to the SUV and took off from the river where we'd been camping for 3 days. He didn't put the locking pin in. So 4 miles down the road, our trailer pops off right in the middle of a construction zone and we get chased down the road by a runaway boat. The wiring for all the lights got worn off by the friction. Got the boat hooked back up with the help of some very muscular men, and took off again. 20 miles down the road, our big red 3 person tube goes flying out of the back of the boat. Fortunately/unfortunately, it was still attached to the tow rope, so it just hovered in the air like a huge kite about 25 feet in the air. Right in front of the semi truck driver behind us. We had quite a procession of cars in the other lane, pointing at it in wonder and awe. At least it got the truck off our tail, which was good considering we had no brake lights left. At last we slowed down, the tube hit a yield sign, and rolled several hundred feet down the highway. Yah, quite the OMG moment. Never, ever sequester the urge to nag.

ooohhh dear!!!

My son did this a few weeks ago...to our large freezer!! Luckily - we caught it about 3 hours later so there wasn't much to throw out. However, it was the second time he had done it - so now I HAVE to defrost the freezer...

Please do NOT beat yourself up!!! Stuff happens!!! You will not forget to check it next time!!!

Deep breath!!!

There are links to them somewhere in my MP question history, but in short:

1) Backing into my husband's car which was parked in our driveway - thousands of dollars in damage, we repaired his car, but not mine
2) Running over the newspaper with my snowblower
....$99 repair later....
3) Running over the garden hose with my snowblower... (Self-repaired)
4) Few weeks ago my husband drove away from the gas station with the pump still in his tank - $2500 repair

Oh! I have one that beats you!

We have a side by side refrigerator. Our freezer didn't shut a couple of weeks ago after we made breakfast. We left the house right after breakfast and didn't return until about 10 pm. The freezer was open ALL day. Oh yeah! And we had a HUGE bag of ice in there!

So we get home and as I am carrying the sleeping baby to bed I feel the floor is wet. I assumed the cat peed on the floor (side note: is it bad that I just assumed that?? lol), took off my socks without waking the baby got him off to bed. When I came back down, I saw that it was in fact not cat pee. There was water a quarter of an inch deep covering the entire kitchen floor, running down the steps from the kitchen into the living room and then down the steps into the basement. The basement floor was COVERED in water, from one end to the other. AND there was water leaking through the steps going into the basement as well.

AWESOME!!! An hour later and every towel in our house was soaked from cleaning up the mess and every item in our freezer got thrown away. AFTER having to chip half the stuff out of there. How does food get thawed out and frozen to the sides of the freezer at the same time??

I wish my OMG episode only involved defrosted food.

I own rental property. We have been preparing a unit for renting. It hasn't been lived in in over a year (long story don't ask). On the fire escape landing was a dirty diaper bin. It was very heavy because it was full of dirty diapers and rain water collecting for over a year. Yes we did have to try to transport it down the stairs from the second floor. It tipped over and emptied out. EWWWW!!!!!.

I'm still trying to get that smell out of my nose from two weeks ago.

I would gladly trade you.

Yes we had to clean it up with a hazmat gear. So very nasty. After three washes the smell was eliminated from the wood floors in the hallway.

Scary OMG moment:
Years ago when I was pregnant and it was winter, we had been using the woodstove for the evening. My husband had left the stove on its 'catalytic' setting and then we'd gone upstairs to watch a late Masterpiece Theater.

At around 11 I told him I smelled smoke. He blew it off. Then I went downstairs to discover that I was right--- black smoke was actually puffing out from the stove-top door. (The kind you lift so you can just drop the wood in.) Stopped me in my tracks to think that, had we not stayed up late, we could have died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

We opened up all the doors and windows we could to let the bad air out...and bought a carbon monoxide detector the next day.

So so many of them... but I'll share my husband's because it's funnier and he's an engineer so screwing up projects is pretty rare!

We moved the internet outlet in our den from one side to the other. He measured, he snaked, he probed... you name it, he did it! When it came time to cut through the attic beams to drop the line behind the wall... let's just say I was covered in saw dust and there was a 3" hole in my ceiling! I didn't say a word to him b/c I knew he was more upset with himself than I could ever be.

What would I replace in my freezer? My Weight Watchers snack size ice cream sandwiches. I can handle a lot of things, but being out of my treat at the end of the day is not one of them!

My husband thought he was doing me a favor when he put extra gas in my car (at the time new Mercedes '07, now daughter's). Most of the time, he would put extra gas in his then Jeep Cherokee and think nothing of it.

He left the next morning heading out of town, I got daughter to school but on the way home my car starting acting up and I thought it was going to stop in its tracks. I freaked out because it is my new car that nothing is supposed to go wrong in and for the one and only time in forever, I was running late so I wore my pj's to take her to school.

I made it to my driveway and the car died. I had to have it towed to the Mercedes dealership and $2500 plus a week later, we learned that Mercedes cars (as fantastic as they are and we'd drive nothing else) are very picky with the gas.

We can only use premium gas.

I am SO glad I was not the one to make that big mistake!!

We have a 3 car garage with 1 double door and 1 single door. Daughter parks her car in the single slot. We were all heading out shortly after she got her license. I got in the car with her, she raised her garage door. Hubby got in his car to leave. All of a sudden we hear a BANG... Hubby backed right into his garage door in his new Mercedes. We have to replace the entire garage door $1000 and pay $250 to have his bumper touched up.

Hubby really is a smart man, MBA from Duke and runs our company very well but sometimes, I shake my head at some of the stupid things that happen to him.

Believe me, I've done some pretty stupid things too....

You must want me to share the story of our leaky tub faucet in the upstairs bathroom. Husband worked on it and then we got ready to go to the hardware store for a few parts. He headed for the car and I stopped by the bathroom, noticed the faucet leaking heavily and turned it off. Got the parts and had a little lunch and arrived home. Yikes!!! Our downstairs bath and walls were ruined by the water that was forced out a leaking pipe BECAUSE I TURNED OFF THE FAUCET MY HUSBAND HAD CORRECTLY LEFT ON. And we're still married! :)

We blew a fuse or something when we had a big power outage. I got the inverter for our solar array running again, but then it started acting up. DH had to order new hardware and still hasn't fully fixed it but I don't think I'll ever live down breaking "his" array.

When DH was going for his driver's license, MIL backed into FIL's truck. They were running late, so she left a note on it saying it was all her fault, explain later. He was....not pleased.
