Hi all,
Does anyone else have the condition Diastasis Recti(condition where your abdominal muscles split during pregnancy)? Mine is pretty severe and I still look about 5 months pregnant, even though my baby girl is now 8 months old. I am working on losing the rest of the baby weight right now which should help and was told pilates will help too. Does anyone know of any physical therapists, etc. in our area who specialize in helping post-partum women with this condition?

I'm not sure where you are located but there is a PT in Wixom that specializes in Women's health. The location is Plymouth Physical Therapy Specialist on Wixom Road just north of 96. Ask to see Amy. ###-###-####. If it is too far she may be able to point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.

I have the diastasis recti. I have a great book and tape which addresses this specifically with exercise. It is by Julie Tuppler called "Lose your Mummy Tummy"

Good luck

I have looked this condition up in my medical book (love having this on hand!). You poor thing~ that looks almost super painful! :(

I would almost suggest after a PT, seeing a Massage therapist and having them massage the stomach - lightly to work the connective tissue to help the body repair.

Check that out, too... incase they do not offer it at PT. (sometimes they do not.)

Good Luck and I hope you feel okay!

I don't remeber the name of the PT, but it is in Troy on 15 mile and Livernois. They may be able to help.
It took me a long time before my muscles went back. It has only been a few months since you had your little one, so don't be so h*** o* yourself. It took almost 10mths for your little one to develop inside you. It will take time, you will get there.

OMG! I never knew I had this condition too!! I mentioned my awkward stomach muscles to my OB after my daughter was born (two and a half years ago) and he didn't show much attention to it.

I have been suffering with the same condition this whole time and didn't know it!!!! After reading your request, I looked it up online and read about the test to find out if you have it and I totally do.......I get a bulge in the center of my stomach when I do any type of sit up.

As you can imagine, I have been trying to dress creatively so that nobody asks if I'm pregnant........I had people asking when I was due for the first 18 months after my Ava was born. Yikes!!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you for writing.....now that I know it has a name, maybe I can do something to fix it too!! I thought I was just weirdly fat.

If you find out something super fabulous from one of these wonderful women, could you please email me @ ____@____.com ?????

Sorry that I don't have help......only needing help!!!

Have a great day!!!
M.
