I am 5 weeks into my 4th pregnancy; the first 3 ended in miscarriages. My issue is staying pregnant, so I really need more supervision than monthly check-ups. Does anyone know of any OB/Gyns out there who specialize in high-risk pregnancies? I really want someone who's going to monitor me much more closely than a regular OB/Gyn would.
Thanks to everyone who replied; I really appreciated everyone's good wishes. I decided to stick with UCSF and made an appointment to see Patricia Robertson. I had another ultrasound at 8 weeks, and everything still looks fine. She was very sympathetic to me based on my history, and will let me have ultrasounds more often than usual, just to reassure me. Now my focus is on getting through the next 5 weeks....

First off, Congratulations!
What you need to do is look for a Perinatologist. This is a Doctor who specializes in high risk pregnancies.
I would start by figuring out which hospital you are going to deliver at and then check your insurance for Perinates that serve your hospital.
Then you might consider posting the Doctor's you are considering using here on this site and see what kind of feedback you get from other moms.
I live in Oakland and delivered at Alta Bates Medical Center. If this is the hospital where you will deliver I would reccomend East Bay Perinatal It is a group of Perinatal Doctors that serve Alta Bates. I saw a variety of Dr.'s from the group and they were all wonderful.

I'm not sure where you're located. I am in the EAst Bay, but went down to Los Gatos to the Los Olivos Women's Medical Center.... I think that's what its called. Anyway, I had a high-risk pregnancy, which we didn't find out until 7 weeks in, but after that, I was watched very closely, having regular check-ups and ultrasounds. I had many more ultrasounds than a normal pregnancy would have. I would try them. I see Dr. Borrison, but I've heard very highly of all doctors there.

my story is similar to yours and I was taken care of at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, since at the time I was an employee at Stanford.
My doctor was Maurice Druzin, excellent doctor, specialist in high-risk pregnancy and a lovely person to deal with. Since Stanford is a University clinic they will not guarantee that the doctor who follows you throughout the pregnancy will be with you at the moment of delivery, but I thought it was a small price to pay and all went great.
From personal experience I would go to CPMC also. They got me through a very tough pregnancy. I also had a friend with very different complications than yours but she loved her treatment at UCSF. Both are highly reputable with good statistics.

I think very highly of Dr. Patricia Robertson, perinatologist and OB/GYN at UCSF. She's written a book on sustaining high-risk pregnancies, as well as being a faculty professor at UCSF who specializes in high-risk pregnancy. She has done a lot of research and written a lot of papers on how to bring high risk pregnancies to term. On top of which, she's a very nice, comforting person.

I had a high risk pregnancy as well. On top of my regular visits with my OB/GYN I spent a lot of time at San Francisco Perinatal Associates. I was there three times a week for non-stress test, nutritionist, and specialty doctor visits. I would highly recommend them.

I had Laurie Green at the CPMC and she was great (Harvard grad). She does take a bit to get used to though...no BS, no sweet talk; just busines. But she gets the highest number of healthy babies in SF. My pregnancy was very tough and she got me through it. Good luck.

J., I'm so sorry to hear about your previous losses. I've experience the same myself, so I know how devastating that can be.
I saw Kathryn Hsaio in San Francisco. She immediately put me on Progesterone for 3-5 weeks beyond the point I had previously miscarried (I had had two previous miscarriages). I also visited an acupuncturist and chinese herbalist who gave me this nasty herb concoction to take the first 15 weeks. After that, I had NO problems whatsoever. I have no idea if it was the progesterone, the herbs or the combination that enabled me to carry to term and give birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl (in 2004).
I'm now 33 weeks pregnant with #2 without any intervention at all, so I've been told once your hormone situation (if that's what's causing the miscarriages) is worked out you'll be OK for subsequent pregnancies.
