I am now 5 days late (period should have started 6/14) I took a test on 6/16 and one this morning 6/19 but they were both NEGATIVE. I'm guessing that I am now 19 DPO. Not sure exactly when I ovulated. (Average cycle length is 32 days) Has anyone experienced late periods but still negative tests and if you were pregnant when did you first see a positive? We are TTC our second and I remember with my first I missed my period and then thought I was pregnant, took a test a few days later and I was, but now I'm 5 days late and getting negative results. Also, I still have some CM- don't know if that means anything. Please help! When should I retest or call the doctor?

What can I do next?

You can still be pregnant it can take a while for the results to show positive. I have a lot of friends that have been pregnant and had negative tests! Good luck! =)

For both of my pregnancies, I did not get a positive PT until I was 10 days late. Some people have a higher amount of the pregnancy hormone earlier on than others. I guess I was one with a lower amount. Both pregnancies were healthy and successful, though. Best of luck! Try to just be patient for a few more days and try again.

M.,
It is so hard TTC. I'd ask your dr. how many days before they'd do a blood test on you (or if they'd just have you come in and POAS in their office). I'd see a fertility specialist (RE) if TTC for too long. I used an over the counter supplement that you can get at GNC (but much cheaper on the internet) that was clinically shown to improve fertility. It's called Fertility Blend by the Daily Wellness Company. But I'd wait to get a workup (hormone, physical exam) from a reproductive endocrinologist (sp?) before taking anything. Best of luck.

Ok Michele. Just be patient. Don’t spend money on tests. Time will tell you know. I guess since they are available it is hard to not do it.

Here is what we did back in 1957. Around 1927 it was discovered that if you injected the urine of a pregnant woman into a rabbit, there would be corpora hemorrhagica in the ovaries of the rabbit. These bulging masses on the ovaries could not be seen with out killing the rabbit to inspect the ovaries, so invariably, every rabbit died, even if the woman wasn't pregnant. The phrase, "The rabbit died," came to be a euphemism for a positive pregnancy test after the late 1920 and early 1930s .

Needless to say, that wasn’t done often.

If you are wanting to know so you can take your vitamins, start eating better and not smoke or drink, just do those things. And you can call the doctor and make an appointment for July 1st and if your period comes, call and cancel it.

Good Luck to you. Hope you are pregnant!!!

By the way, if you are interested in awesome prenatal vitamins and minerals that really help with energy and help take care your free radicals, please reply with your phone number and I will give you a call.

M.,
I was REALLY late... 8 weeks to be exact... (i have fertility problems...) I had taken a round of Provera, because my test had come back negative and had spinal injections done... (i know... crazy huh?) Because the OB said it was fine... And had already had two rounds of blood work that had come back negative. So here I was 10 weeks since the start of my last period... and having more blood drawn and no answers... and the OB still hadn't called with the answers on my Blood work... and this was my 3rd BLOOD draw.... So I called them. Number 3.... POSITIVE.... Just goes to show, that you can never be sure in the first Trimester what is going on... whether you are trying or not... what you do to, or put into your body make sure you are ok doing it to your baby (Pregnant or not).

Best of Luck to you...

YES! The very same thing happened to me. I'm on a 32 cycle too, but one month I was 39 days!! Periods can vary for sure. I took 4 tests to be sure and all were negative. The next month I was back to my regular cycle so it was just a messed up month for me.

Hmmm... it sounds like you might be. I'd wait a few more days and take another test. You can see your doctor too. They'll be able to tell. Good luck!

False negatives are common. They don't necessarily mean anything. I never did have a positive test with my daughter, and I have a very healthy almost 2 yo running around me right now to prove it's nothing to worry about. Stress can cause your timing to be off, as was mentioned, but if you really think you are pregnant, call your doctor on Monday and get a blood test done. When my tests were normal (25 and higher is positive), my numbers were over 12,000. I had a normal (for me) pregnancy with her. GL!

If you were stressed out around the time of ovulation you may have ovulated later in your cycle than normal. wait a few days and test again if AF hasn't shown up by then. Sorry all you can do is wait and see.

Hi M.,

I was in your exact same situation last month. I was actually 11 days late, three negative HPTs, and I finally scheduled an appointment with my OB to have a blood test drawn. The day before my appointment, my period started. Go figure.

If you are concerned, schedule an appointment with your doctor. Otherwise, I would just wait a few more days and take another HPT. It can take some time for your hCG to get to a level that can be detected by the HPT. Also, take the HPT first thing in the morning. That's when the hCG levels are at the highest and are not "watered down" by any fluid you have been drinking during the day.

Good luck!

First off, you need to calm down.........I know you want this, and it's stressful, but being stressed doesn't help a thing...........5 days isn't much, so just be calm and wait a few more days.........

There could be alot of things going on..........when I was 5 days late, I was pregnant, but not all women work like clock work like I did.............

I think these days you just get so excited, and the pregnancy test make you up or down since you can take them now so soon.......I would wait at least 4 more days and then take another test........

Hang in there, it will happen!

Are you having any pregnancy symptoms? Having to pee a lot, hungrier than usual, sleepier than usual, tender breasts? The peeing and tender breast things started with me almost as soon as I conceived with both my girls. But, that may just be me. Anyhow, if you're having other symptoms like this, go to your doctor on Monday and have a BLOOD test done. The pee-in-a-cup test is basically the same one as what you use at home. If you're not noticing any other symptoms, then you're probably not. But still, retest in a week or so to be sure. And go to the doctor if you don't get your period in a couple more weeks, 'cause then you probably are. Good luck!

While trying the first time to get pregnant, I was late many months with a negative test result. One month I even ended up being 28 days late (which is very unusual for me as I'm usually regular like clockwork) and still wasn't pregnant. If you're five days late with two negative results, you are most likely not pregnant.

I was 6 days late when I got prego with my daughter and I took two test and they were neg and I even went to the dr. They told me the same thing that I wasn't prego but if I still felt that I was in a week to try a test again and I did what they said and in that next week the posative line came up.

I would not get my hopes up. Even if you have very low hormone levels, you would get a faint positive line. Any indication of positive means that you're preg.

I produce very low levels of hormones at the beg. of pregnancy and it has caused me to miscarry a few times, but even so, I got a very light line.

Urine tests are very sensitive these days and HGC levels multiply SO fast. If after 5 days you do not get a positive it is very unlikely that you are pregnant.

I am sorry.

I have always shown a positive result well before I miss a period but my girlfriend doesn't show for several days after a missed period so I think everyone is SO different. If I were you, I would call the doc right away. You may be pregnant but there could also be something else going on. Just check it out and give yourself peace of mind.

Good luck!

P.S I am not sure I answered all of your question, I have no idea what the acronyms stand for in your question. = ) Sorry.

I was a week late last month. I was totally freaking out because my husband just had his vasectomy and supposedly all looked well (it had been probably 2 months after). I had a pretty bad cold when I should have started. That is the only reason I can figure out that I was so late.

The doc will basically do a pee test as well right now since it is too early for blood test, so kinda a waste to go.
If you are having other symptoms then for sure call, but 5 days late is nothing. I mean the fact that you are trying can add stress to your cycle and can make all your dates off - ovulation and AF!
I know it is hard to not think about it, but the best you can do to conceive is put it out of you mind - truly!
I think you should just play the wait game and hold off until next week to see if you either get AF or a positive test.
Good luck and remember - relax - it is key!
