We are headed out this weekend to Ft. Gibson Lake. I just found out today that I am pregnant! I plan to ask my Dr. tomorrow, but was wondering if it's safe to swim in area lakes while pregnant. My husband and I have been trying for 16 months to conceive, and as soon as we quit trying I am! I obviously don't want to do anything to risk this pregnancy, but I also want to spend time with my 7 y/o son in the water. Any help would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

First off CONGRATULATIONS! That is so exciting. Now to the Swimming. I wouldnt see why you wouldnt be able to go swimming in the lake. Like you said you have a doctors appointment coming up soon and if it isnt before you go to the lake then i would call them and ask them first.

I gone to the Lake of the Ozarks since I was an infant and have swam in it my entire life, including when I was pregnant with both of my children. I know my mom, aunt, cousins etc. have all also swam while pregnant and none of us have had any problems or issues with it. Congratulations and good luck!

My doctor told me that it was okay to get in the lake water to get wet and stay cooled off (you don't want to get over-heated either) as long as you don't keep your lower body submersed in water. He suggested I get wet and then stay in the shallow water up to my thighs. Also, my doctor told me not to stay in a wet swimsuit which could potentially lead to a yeast/bacterial infection, which could be dangerous during pregnancy.

Congrads. to you I had a hard time getting pregnant with my last one and we were to go spend the week at the lake a couple weeks after I found out I talked to my Dr. and he said it would be ok just make sure that when I was done swimming to make sure I took A bath or shower and wash my private area real good to prevent any kinda infection that may accour such as yeast or any kinda bacterial infection that some pregnant women may experiance due to hormonal changes . but other than that he said it was even safe for me to go boating I was surprised with it being a rough ride and bouncing around . but I would still check with your Dr. to be double safe . Have a great weekend sounds like your going to have a fun fathers day . M. G.
