Has anyone heard of this? My friend just got engaged and has a huge rock on her hand. She is worried sick that something is going to happen to it. Besides the standard homeowners insurance which would only help if it was stolen at home. Does anyone know of or have insurance on their jewelry for loss or theft. Theft as in hold up someone wants the ring kind of thing.

We found some on the internet but don't know if they are legit or not. We did find jewelers mutual but we aren't for sure.

Thanks for your help

I have had a jewelry policy since 1999 when I got engaged. I have it through State Farm and I think I pay like $31/year or something like that. It covers in case its lost or stolen, etc.

I have Farmers Insurance for everything and we have an extra rider for the jewelry. This rider attaches onto the homeowners policy. It is not cheap but it is with a well known company and if you value your jewelry, it is worth it. I've done it that way for about 20 yrs now. Fortunately, we have not had to use it.

yes, you get a separate jewelry policy through your home owners insurance. I have all my jewelry under that policy. It's a must have in order to have piece of mind.

have her call her home owners insurance company...

Yes, I have Jeweler's Mutual, as a matter of fact. I bought the insurance after my diamond fell out (think a jeweler tampered with it) and we had to replace the diamond- not cheap! It was a horrible Christmas and I decided to get the insurance once the stone was replaced, to make sure we didn't have to come up with that kind of money again. The insurance is inexpensive and it's based on the appraised value of the jewelry (which is nice if it appraises for more than you paid for it). My hubby bought me diamond studs a few years ago from Sam's Club and I added them to my policy right away. They appraised for way more than we paid for them- go Sam's! I haven't had to make a claim at all since getting insured, so I can't tell you how well they do with that, but I have peace-of-mind now that I am.

I am a Insurance Agent. I would check with your current homeowners policy. You can itemized high valued items, such as a ring, but most require a recent apprsial, but on homeowners you have a 1% deductable (in most cases), thats 1% of the value of your home. You can also get a jewelery floater from a insurance agent. WE NEVER SUGGEST buying a jewelery policy on line or through the jeweler, Online you can never really verify if the company is real or not and through a jeweler, they have very small print and conditions if they change hands. My mom had a very expensive ring and my dad purchased the optional insurance policy through them(Helsburg Diamonds). Well here it is 20yrs later, the company is still in business and has changed hands and they no longer honor the policy. I think your insurance agent is wrong, with the companys we offer if the ring is lost or stolen or damaged at home or away it would be covered and depends on what company you are with there may or may not be a deductable(if the ring is scheduled on the policy). I would HIGHLY suggest changing insurance companys. It sounds like they dont offer much coverage. Call any insurance agency in your phone book call around and ask for a jeweley floater or policy. Should be very cheep, go over all the coverages and make shure its what your looking for. Make shure it covers, theft & or loss, damage at home and away, I would go for the lowest deductable they offer, it will raise your premium but not by very much.

Good Luck & Sorry for my spelling, I got my nails done for a very important meeting and havent learned how to type with them yet.

My ring was insured through the jewler. But, we also have it insured through our homeowners. I don't remember what it is called, but there is a clause where you cn insure personal property (such as your ring) that is not always in your house. Have her call her insurace agent and ask about it.

Congrats to your friend on her engagement!!

L.,

Yes, you can get a seperate policy from your homeowners insurance(or at least I did) This covers everthing from losing it to theft etc... so that your friend can feel safe about wearing it. Just have her call whoever holds her homeowners insurance.

I use jewelers mutual for my jewelry insurance. They cover against theft, damage, etc. I actually had to make a claim (I chipped my diamond - don't know how) and got a new diamond without any hassle.

Hi L.,

Yes, there is a separate insurance for jewelry and if you are going through a reputable insurance company (we have Farmer's) they will certainly take care of your jewelry needs.

It is extra, but not too much. Get it for this and more. I have it for several pieces of my jewelry.

Good Luck!

Gladys

PS..don't do a no name company, use a reputable one.
