I just had my 20 week ultrasound and told the tech I did not want to know the sex, she said no problem. At no point during the examination did she ask my husband and I to turn away. They did the same with my 1st pregnancy and that was a girl. Do you think they didn't have me turn away because there was nothing to see (you know, because its a girl?)? OR is it because I had no clue what I was looking at anyway??
Because, you had no clue. When I had my ultrasound to find the gender, they were looking at the baby forever, before they asked if I wanted to know. She said most people could never tell.
They probably assumed that you wouldn't know what you were looking at. Bigger question to me is--Do you really want to know or not?? Stop cheating!

I don't mean to come across as a smarty pants, but I knew before they told me as they zoomed in w/ both my kids. You get a cheeseburger or a hot dog. ;)
And I had never seen anyone else's crotch shot before.
I am gonna guess they didn't get close enough for you to see.

Because they assume you don't know what you are looking at. That being said on my US visit with my second our lovely baby girl gave us a very clear view and there was no mistaking it was girl. At that point I didn't really know what I was looking at, but there was no questions when she gave us the view she did.
Well if she thought you would recognize a boy, she also would have thought you would recognize a girl and would have asked you not to look either way. Obviously if you knew what you were looking at it wouldn't matter if it was a girl or a boy, you would know. Most likely she didn't even go look so there was no reason to ask you to look away. But if it were a girl she would ask you to look away just the same as a boy, because you would see the girl parts as easily as the boy parts. But most people don't have a clue what they are looking at. And she likely didn't even bother to check. So nope you can't tell anything by that. Sounds like you might want to know though, maybe reconsider and ask at your next u/s if you decide you do want to know. I knew with both my kids before the u/s tech told me. It wasn't that I saw anything, I just knew. I had no idea what parts she was looking at on the u/s. And wouldn't have been able to recognize anything anyway.

Most prenatal protocols do not include a crotch shot to tell either way. She was confident in her scanning abilities and knew which images/measurements to obtain without showing that area....and you wouldn't know what you were looking at. If she did get a view she would have changed her probe position before your brain would have registered what was going on.
I don't think them NOT asking you to turn away means it's a girl. We never wanted to know with either of our pregnancies and the tech never told us to turn away and the first was a boy, second was a girl. I never would've known what I was looking at anway, I think you're overanalyzing it.
probably because you wouldn't know what you're looking at anyways. Or maybe just to becareful that you aren't "one of those moms" (like me) who had a troubled pregnancy before and would actually know what you were looking at because you had so many ultrasounds with a previous one, lol.
Kudos to the tech either way for at least trying to help keep the gender a surprise!
We were always told they'd tell us to look away when they got to the area, then they'd look and turn back to us if the baby wasn't positioned in a way to show the answer.
Do you have any idea (other than the 50/50 chance) as to what the baby is?
If not then you have nothing to worry about and you dont actually know the gender so all is well and how you wanted it
If you really don't want to know (and kudos to you for waiting for the surprise), then don't read so much into it ;) With all of ours, their were views that she had to really work to get (I mean other organs, since we didn't want to know gender). She probably wasn't worried about showing you too much based on the baby's position. All the best for your pregnancy and delivery...
The tech I had said unless you really know what you are looking at (in the medical field and do this on a daily basis)...you don't know what you are looking at! I love that you are keeping it a surprise! So many people don't...it's truly the best surprise! Congrats.
They didn't have us turn away with our son and we never saw a thing. I think it just depends on the tech.
She wasn't looking for the sex for you so she wouldn't have a reason to zoom in on the p****** p**** so nothing for you to see, or her for that matter. I'm sure she just did the bone measurements and all that. It's still 50/50!
