Ahh What a Day

Today started out like any other day. A little cleaning, a lot of pool emptying thanks to a storm that came through, kids being ornery. You know a typical day.

Well when there was a little lull in the day I thought "Great, now I can dye my hair!". I get everything out, get the dye on my hair, and asked my DD to turn the tub on so the dogs could get some water. They are to good for bowls and prefer it straight from the tap. I hear her messing with the knob but don't think a whole lot of it till I hear "mom it won't work". I'm thinking maybe the knob is stripped, so I try the hot water-nothing. I try the bathroom sink-nothing. I try the kitchen, one can hope it's only located in the bathroom right? Nope, nothing.

I call my landlord. It's the only time we have them do the repair work, and since they have a regular guy I figured that would be best. Well wouldn't you know it, the regular guy passed a year ago in an accident. So their goal is to have someone out tomorrow. None of this is a huge deal, we do have water stored for just this purpose or a power outage since wells don't work without power, but what the heck am I gonna do with all of the dye in my hair?

Then brilliance hits me, or at least I think so, THE KIDS POOL, yep, only I didn't take a dip. I had my DD scoop and pour. I had a twig or two in my hair by the time it was done, but all hair dye was safely removed.

So my question.

How was your day and have you ever found yourself having to get extra creative to get something done?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay, so the strangest thing just happened....my title was changed and I didn't change it.........Thats a little creepy, it went from Ahh what a day to "lie".

Patty, we live rural and only have one neighbor. She'd probably laugh at me and close the door. We don't have a good relationship.

Score one for potty training!

Julie, I could see my own kids doing that lol

I also think I am always ready for bed. I wake up wondering how soon until I can put them down for the night.

LOL thanks for the laugh - very creative!

I once had crazy downstairs neighbors when I lived in an apartment. If I made any noise at night, they flipped out and I was too young an naive and nice to tell them to f-off. Well once upon a time, late one night, I had promised to make a particular dessert for a party I was going to after work the following day and I had to finish it that night. It was a peanut butter tart, which required making a mousse and topping with whipped cream, which required turning on my mixer, which was loud. I remembered that I had an inverter in my car, so I dragged my 3 year old son of bed (I was a single mom), brought him and my mixer and my bowls and ingredients down to my car, hooked up my mixer to the inverter and whipped up a bowl of mousse - and then a bowl of stabilized whipped cream - in my car in the middle of the night. I think that's the hardest I've ever had to work for a dessert!

I'm having a rotten day. I yelled this morning, a friend blew us off this afternoon, baby is fussy and won't nap, and its 30 minutes past dinner time and she won't stop nursing! The other two are hungry and fighting!

I don't miss dying my hair.

Once, I locked myself out of my parents house. They were away, my brother was AWOL....I asked the neighbor to help me break into the garage --if you pull hard enough, most garage doors will unlock and pop open. I then found a screw driver and took the door into the house off its hinges. I then put a note on the door-sorry, dad, you'll need to fix this. Ask me about it when you get home.

Oh, what a good story! I don't miss the days when I dyed my hair.

My day started with a nightmare wake-up call at 3 a.m., and I cleaned most of the entire house yesterday, so I was pretty much dragging this morning. My husband thought he'd be kind and let me sleep in, but I actually had to get Kiddo to his soccer camp *on time* and so I left for the park without a shower.

If you know me, you know how incredibly rare it is for me to leave the house without bathing. Like, twice in a year rare. I got "creative" (we'll call it that) and trimmed my bangs because I am too lazy to go get it cut. It turned out alright, considering I have a cowlic that makes part of my bangs look like they're reaching for the sky if they aren't tamed.

I am now very, very tired and after a boisterous playdate, would really like a beer but my husband's childhood buddy flew in from back east and we're going out for dinner tonight, so I had a cup of tea so I will stay moderately awake, charming and able to converse during the meal. I'm looking forward to coming home later, having a glass of wine and watching MasterChef. And falling asleep in front of the TV.

Some days, I'm just living for bedtime.

Classic! Something your DD and you will laugh about in later years, or tomorrow!

As for my day and creativity? DD is potty trained for pee, but is too scared to sit on it for poop. Well, I got her to sit for over an hour and had to coax her up. She was reading books and playing with her Mickey Mouse figure dolls! Score!

Wouldn't it have been easier to call a neighbor and go over and rinse your hair!

I'm halfway through an online funding application that I'm really happy with. I kept saving my work, and then I went back to it, and it's gone. Now I have to try to remember all the brilliant stuff I had in it!

That is a good one. Thank God for the pool - twigs and all :) I dropped off our mini van for a in interior CLEAN/detail. It's nasty after 6 years of kid (3) and dog (1)residue.... what I was told would take 2 hrs, was clearly in need of MORE. The poor woman's face when she saw the interior... OMG she said - this WILL take longer... I dropped it at noon. They just called - will be ready at 6. I guess we need to stop the snacking in the car.... and bring a tip for the poor souls!
