My baby will be 3 months old next Friday. This week he has been kinda drooling and slobbering and a little more fussy than usual. I "think" I feel something coming in his gums but Im not really sure. But what I am worried about is that today he has pooped about five times and his butt is really burned and hes not happy about it! He usually only poops once a day or every other day. So this is ALOT for him. He is eating OK, a little less than usual. He doesnt have a fever. I guess Im wondering could he be teething? I did hear a rumor that they can get diarehha while teething but havent done too much reserch on that. Is he too young to be teething? Im worried about the diarehha! Moms help! I need advice. Im worried about my little guy!
OK so I took little man to the doctor today, this is gross but I thought his ear smelled kinda funny and the pooping and the diaper rash is still continuing so I wanted to rule out ear infection. No ear infection, and everything else looks fine! The doc told me to put him on soy for a week or two because if they have a virus they can be sensitive to lactose....FUNNY because he is on Similac sensitive which is LACTOSE FREE! She said if the pooping continues for 10 days they will test him for something else. So we will see!! She said hes too young to be teething. That trip did nothing!! Ugh!

TRIPLE PASTE diaper cream when my daughter had a horrible diaper rash/food allergy--Walmart and CVS/Walgreens usually carry it--or you can order it online. It was created by a pediatrician. It is effective against yeast rashes, too. Thanks! S.
It sounds to me like he is for sure teething. My daughter is 18 months and she is the same way. Even now she gets diahreah(however you spell that)... and she won't eat hardly anything. She sometimes gets a low grade fever too, just depends, but I wouldn't worry, he sounds fine.
Molly and family...I have found my babies at that age start drooling. They will not have a tooth come through for quite a few months, probably, but the mouth is already getting ready, and he obviously can feel them under the gums. (Baby Numbs in works great, to calm him)I have always had to keep small bibs on my children, specifically in the winter, so their collars won't get wet, in turn, having a wet slobbery chest... then leads to a chest cold etc...) Good luck! As far as his little bottom is concerned, it will come and go with teething from now until he is 2 or so, but please try using "Utter Balm" It is at Walmart, in the pet dept, in a GREEN square metal container. (YES I TYPED PET DEPT) The label says it is used for Cows, when nursing and such, but I SWEAR by it. In fact my father uses it all the time, with his hymroid (sp)problem, that is actually how I found it. It looks a lot like petroleum jelly, but it has something in it (who knows-magic?), that repairs the delicate skin in such places as a little bottom. Use it liberally.. thick cover of goo) BUT, if there are red dots.. along with the redness, kind of like a rash, use Lotrimin AF (Anti Fungal) Walmart brand AF is the same, and baking soda baths, this could be a "yeast rash" and need more than just sealant to repair it. Those type of rashes happen more in the summer, but if some type of AF is not used, it can get really raw and sore for your little guy!

Also my mother is the youngest of ten, and so if I can't figure out a "baby health" issue, one of my Aunts always seems to have a family remedy ready for me to try. My husband and I have been married for 9 1/2 years, and I am very happy to be a stay at home mommy! Just as a note for the winter cold-hooping cough? that hollow deep cough that scares a parent, and DR's can do nothing for? Old wives remedy- a thick liquid of fresh pineapple juice and lots of white pure sugar, mixed together, it cuts the crud in your/your baby's lungs-chest within a day or two, if swallowed a few times each day. Not good for teeth(all the sugar) I am sure, but it does the trick, I promise. The liquid may be too think for tippy cups, but large spouted bottles work well for a baby. Good Luck!!
Sounds like teething to me. Our daughter started having symptoms at about that age but didn't actually cut her first tooth until her 6 mo bday. I wouldn't start him on cereal yet; just give him a wet washcloth that's been in the refrigerator to chew on - teething rings are too big for their tiny mouths at that age! If it's really bad, give him a little Tylenol (check with your ped first, of course). I would not use the teething tablets - my ped told me there are some herbs in them that could be harmful. If you have a mesh fresh food bag, that worked well for us. You can put an ice cube in it and the baby can gum it without worrying about it breaking off and choking him. Then when he's bigger, you can put carrots or apples or other hard foods in it. Good luck!
I have a little boy who will be 4 months on Dec. 15 he too as been doing the exact same thing but he hasn't cut any teeth YET! he has been having a more frequent appetite so I tried giving him RICE cereal and he is better. Try that and see if it works if not, take a wash cloth and sew it in half so when your little one starts teething you can give him a teething ring and it won't be so cold for them. There is also a product out there (Wal-mart) that is non-medicated that are like the Listerine strips that dissolve but they are NOT Listerine strips that are supposed to numb the gum's without medicine, I do not know the name of this product but check in the baby section with all the pacifiers.
You may have an early teether, or it could be something else. I would suggest taking him to his doc. to rule out any illnesses, and see what they say. As for the pooping you say is alot... He should be having at least two bowl movements a day at his age. I'd guess that he's been constipated alot if once a day or every other day is normal for him. If he's on formula try switching to one that is lower in Iron. And to help with his bottom being burned from the diarehha; go get some Diprotex to put on his bum. You can find it at Dillons. It will create a protective barier over the inflamed areas till it's healed. Good luck.
It's totally possible my sister in law's kids all started teething at 3 months. The last one actually had 9 teeth by the time he was 6 months. Everyone's different like my daughter didn't get her first till she was 10 months. The doctor told me it's hereditary so it will depend on you and your husband. If you got them early and he got them later it will be hard to pin point. But if you both got them later it will most like be the same with your child. Since both of us didn't get them till we were around 10-11 months old I was thinking I could have a baby walking before she got teeth.
Good Morning Molly, Yes babies can teeth that young. Our Eldest had 4 teeth at 4 months, 6 at 6 mon etc. Our 1 yr old Gr son is now getting back molars and bless his heart his hinny is raw and blistered also. So much so we don't even try to use a wet wipe, we just put him in a warm bath and clean him off that way. It is mostly very liquidity and strong smell.
We have tried Destin, Butt paste ( anything you have to touch them with the smooth on is torture for them) so we started using powder with aloe, after making sure he is good and dry, then we went to Corn starch.
Now we take a tube of Hydro-cortisone cream and just gobb is on.
We've put him in size 5 diapers so nothing rubs or is to tight. This is our second round in less then 2 months.
We give him a lot of water and pedialyte, since the diaper is mostly filled with fluid. Also do the brat diet to help stop the diarrhea
These are some suggestions other moms sent in a few weeks ago for the same problem.

Mix together into a creamy paste--works great.
Dr. Smiths Butt Cream, Wal-Mart or Pharmacy.
There were 75 responses so to took the two we tried. Most suggested destin,powder, corn starch etc.
Good Luck Molly, It is so miserable for these little folks. Zane lookes like a bowlegged cowboy when he poopies, or trys to walk. I pick him up and he sticks his little hinny as far out from me as possible so I carry him under his knees. :(

Don't worry too much. Just make sure he stays hydrated.
He could totally be teething. My middle son cut teeth by
the time he was 5 months old. So teething at 3 months is
possible.
My best to you mom. Also keep his bottom as dry as possible,
too.

Its possible he could be teething, is he cranky? You can always get teething tablets for him, they worked great for our son. They dissolve in the mouth. Help relieve a cranky baby.
Not too young at all! My son was that age when his first tooth appeared. Now his son is 7 months old and has 5 teeth already. My kids got ear infections with teeth. The doctors said that at night, all that extra saliva that is produced, sometimes pools back in there, and makes them get an earache. Diarrhea sometimes happens too. Now, I haven't seen it prescribed for years, but my pediatrician with my first two, prescribed mycolog (sp?) cream for diaper rash. He said to use it sparingly. It was like a miracle. Cleared up the sore bottom, pronto! With my last two, I gommed on Desitin, every diaper change. It was so thick and greasy that nothing got past it to hurt their little bottoms. It's hard to get off, but it sure was a shield against anything.
Hi Molly, My son started drooling alot about three months as well. He had classic teething signs so I figured that he was teething and thought I even atarted feelin a tooth BUT...He wasnt b/c he didnt get his first tooth until the end of ten months! So he was just teesing me I guess!!! So I could def be a tooth but also he could be teesing you as well!!! Boys like to do that Ive come to figure out!! Good luck!!
Sounds like teething to me. My son had his first tooth at 2 1/2 months, my daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was 10 1/2 months!
My son, who is now 37 years old, was born September 7. By Christmas he had two teeth. I never thought babies oould get teeth that early but obviously, they can! Although Doctors tell you it is just a coincidence my babies were always ill when they teethed. They had runny noses, fevers, coughs and often sore throats when they cut teeth. Back in the 70's they gave antibiotics for these. Now I doubt they would or that babies needed them. Congratulations on your baby I am sure he is wonderful.
Congratulations on the great family! I am not a health care provider. Your son could be teething and it could contribute to the diarrhea or it could be something else. Since there is no fever, I'm not sure I would be too worried. But, regardless of the cause of the diarrhea, make sure you keep in hydrated and see if you can protect his bottom. No point in making matters worse. Keep monitoring the situation. Good luck!
