Trouble with Formula After a Recent Switch

I nursed my 5 month old for about 2 weeks and then had to switch to formula. We used Enfamil Gentlease due to a little reflux he had as a newborn. We recently switched to Enfamil Lipil. He did great reflux-wise but now seems fairly constipated. Lots of grunting and turning red when he tries to go every few days. Has anyone else had trouble using this formula brand? A suggestion for the constipation we have tried is giving him some Gerber prunes. This seems to work well but I would have to feed him it everyday in order for him to have...

Breastfeeding and Formula

I just had my daughter in February. She is a little over a month now and up until Friday, I was almost exclusively breastfeeding and pumping. There were times when I had to supplement because I didn't seem to have enough milk. I tried pumping extra and nursing more often, but it didn't help. I felt frustrated with breastfeeding because I have inverted and sore nipples and the pumping made me feel really tied down. I was also afraid my daughter wasn't getting enough to eat. A few days ago I began trying to dry up my milk supply after...

Milk Allergy or Lactose Intolerance?

Hi moms! Our oldest daughter was allergic to the milk protein (casein) for the first 3 years of her life before suddenly growing out of it. Our middle son has totally different symptoms. In order to avoid an issue, he had only soy based formula as an infant and we only give him almond milk now and avoid ALL milk products. Our daughter had behavioral issues that we could see right away it was casein issues. But with our son, he just gets diarrhea and no other symptoms. No tummy aches, no red tush, etc. So for him, it could be a...

Any Moms Concerned with Sweetener in Similac Organic Formula?

My three month old son is breast and formula fed. I've been using Similac Organic liquid formula to supplement. I eat mostly organic foods and was happy to find an organic formula, as the data about hormones/pesticides in dairy is quite scary. Recently, the NY Times published an article that raised concerns about the evaporated cane juice used as a sweetener in Similac Organic. Apparently, it is much sweeter than other formulas, even all of Similac's other products. The article questions Similac's use of the sweetener and states that this...

Mom Wondering About Soy Formula

I have a 7 week old boy, on milk based formula he spit most of his bottle up after. So we swithed him to soy and he does not spit up half as much and is not so fussy all the time. My doctor told me that I should try him on lactose free as soy has estrogen in it and that boys do not need that of course. He stated that it would not hurt him to be on soy and that he could take it if the other does not work. Has any one else heard of this soy and estrogen thing before?
