Sleep Deprived Eeg-how to Keep Sleep Loving Son Awake??

Hi Moms/Daddies My son has to go in for a sleep deprived EEG at the hospital that is about 16 miles away. By sleep deprived he is not to get more than 4 hours of sleep and no caffeine 8 hours prior and no naps for the day prior. Our appt is at 8:30am. My son is 4 and he no longer takes naps. His bedtime routine is that he likes to watch TV on my bed and then eventually falls asleep by 8:30-9pm. This kids likes his sleep, how in the world do I keep a 4 year old up? Where can I take him to keep him entertained? Even if I take him downstairs...

Baby Shower Questions

Hello! I am 20 weeks pregnant and am starting to think about registering for my shower. I will probably register at Babys R Us and Target or Walmart. I really need help knowing what to register for and what brands work the best. I don't need top of the line baby stuff but want brands that are known to hold up well. I also need a list of items that are must haves for first time moms. I would love to hear from you experienced moms out there!!! Thanks!!

Help with Bedtime Routine

Hello, my twin 14 month old daughters are used to being rocked to sleep. I would like to get them to go to sleep in their cribs at night on their own. I usually give them their bedtime bottle at 7:30 and they are rocked to sleep. I would like to be able to put them in their cribs after for them to go to sleep on their own. We tried tonight and my husband could not stand the crying and took them out. My husband and I do not agree on this. (He is the stay at home parent and they are daddy's girls). What should I do? Should I let them cry and...

Cat Question Part 2

As a follow up to my recent outdoor cat question, we have gotten our cat back after being neutered and given all of his necessary shots. I have halfway convinced my husband to try transitioning our inherited outdoor cat to an indoor cat. He is not a cat person so this is a huge concession on his part. To make this work for everyone involved with the least amount of heartache, how do I go about training an outdoor cat to be an indoor cat? We have had the cat nearly 2 weeks and the cat has spent most of his time in our garage with two...

First Road Trip with Twins

Hello, we will be talking our first long distance road trip to visit both sets of grandparents this Thanksgiving. Neither set of grandparents have any infant/toddler equipment and I am unsure what to pack for the trip. Also, the girls each sleep in their own crib so what should I do about bedding at the grandparents houses? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

2 Year Old Won't Take Naps Anymore

I recently switched my two year old daughter to a toddler bed from her crib and now she isn't taking naps and I can't get her to even stay in the bed without having to sit right there...even then she won't fall asleep. Just wondering if anyone else has had or is having this same issue and how they resolved it if at all. I've had people tell me that she may just be "growing" out of her naps but at the end of the day it is very evident that she needs a nap. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Extended Family Vacation Suggestions

My two brothers and I are planning a giant family vacation in order to celebrate our father's retirement. I was hoping you all could provide me with suggestions for a fun and unique family vacation experience that would be appropriate for around 7-10 adults and 8 children from ages newborn to five-years. We already do a beach vacation once a year and we're leary of bringing kids on a cruise. Any thoughts outside of those two? Oh and I should also mention, camping is out. My dad's more the central AC/cable tv type. Thanks for your help! I...

Problems Napping at Grandma's

My mother-in-law watches our son while we go to work. There are days where he will sleep a total only a HALF HOUR (he sleeps in a pack n play at her house)! She told my husband we don't understand how hard it is to put him down. Of course we do we are his parents. There are some times, whether it is nap time or bed time, that he will take an hour to go down. Others he is out in 5 minutes. We keep trying to tell her the things we do at home for him (short of actually writing out his schedule) and are about at our wits end. She has been...

Advice on Sleeping

Hi, I've been reading sooo much on sleep issues but haven't found a good plan to address our particular problem. I thought maybe you Mamas can help. Background: our daughter is 8 months old. She is cheerful and energetic and lovely but she isn't an easy sleeper. For her first 3 months, she slept next to us in a co-sleeper. At three months she started waking every hour needing to nurse and I ended up bringing her into our bed which actually worked great - at least we ALL were getting sufficient sleep. I considered moving her to her...

Memory Foam Mattress for a Child?

It's time to transition my 4 yr old daughter from a toddler bed to a twin bed. I am considering a memory foam mattress on top of a platform bed. Wanted to get advice. Is it safe? Will there be enough support for their developing bodies? Could it get too hot? thanks in advance for your two cents. PS: Reasoning - i thought that since i luv my memory foam mattress so much, i should get one for my kids too.
