14 Year Old Thinks Rules Too Strict - NO MORE RESPONSES PLEASE. THANKS for ALL!

My 14 year old daughter seems to think a few of my rules are too strict. So, she asked me if I’d get the opinion of other mothers – particularly those I don’t know personally – and who have daughters her age. The rules she disagree with are as followed: My daughter can only attend two outings per month. Note: This includes things like going to the movies, hanging out at the mall, birthday parties, etc. This also includes spending the night away from home. My daughter thinks she should be allowed to do more each month and...

We Can't Afford Dance Lessons

When my husband and I decided that I would stay home and homeschool our daughter, it was absolutely the right choice. That meant a pay cut, as now I can only work part-time. We make ends meet, we don't live extravagantly but we do get to go see movies and have some family fun. My daughter is naturally talented at dance, gymnastics and cheerleading. Now, she's been able to participate in competitive gymnastics and cheerleading because I work there and she gets free lessons. I've managed to afford her leotards by getting them second-hand...

Summer for a 12 and 10 Year Old - Leave Them Home Alone?

So my friend has 2 kids - a 12 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. As a family, they take two weeks off during the summer. For the other 6 plus weeks, she plans to leave them home alone while she and her husbad work 9-5 Monday - Friday. There are camps they can send them to that are not expensive (money is not an issue). They will likely go to a one week camp (for sports) for a week or two but that's it. Would you leave you 12 and 10 year old at home for 4+ weeks over the summer? I think they are insane. I think it's insane...

Bed Time for 10 Year Old

I am the mother of 3 healthy, active children. Recently, my husband and I have been in disagreement about what time my oldest (10 years old) should be allowed to stay up at night. I feel 8:45 for the 10 yr old is good since he must be up at 6:45am to get the bus at 7:30 am for school. I am the one who gets the kids ready for bed, reads to them, makes sure teeth are brushed, etc and my husband travels for work often so he is not home. When he is home he is usually watching TV, especially sports in the evening. But, my husband thinks the...

Her son, has started "dating" a 13 year old girl (who mom doesnt like hehe), is pretty disrespectful to his mom, he is spoiled with cash & fancy electronics by his Dad that lives in a different city. He wants to "go out" on dates with the girlfriend, I think in groups it should be ok...? He has no experience using transit alone- I think now is a good time to learn... theres a bunch of stuff...

13 Year Old Hermit

My 13 year old son is a hermit. He rarely likes to leave the house. He would much rather stay at home and play video or computer games. We do force him to leave the house at times, but you can tell it just isn't fun for him. If we would let him, he would stay awake all night and sleep all day. He is very intelligent but has no ambition to do anything. We requested that he find something to do this summer so he won't be staying home doing nothing the entire summer. He has not even attempted to do this. We going to have our...

Best Advice for Preparing 10 Year Old for Camp

My ten year old son is going to sleep away camp this weekend for the first time with boy scouts. (My husband will be there as well) I talk to him all the time since his was little about not letting others touch you or pressure you into anything. II am looking for other words of wisdom to prepare him to be on his own and best equipped with knowledge about potential bad people. I don't want to frighten him but also want him to be aware that this exists in our world. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Son Having Trouble in Pre School

hello again ladies I called my sons pre school teacher today to ask a question. I really love his teacher, she is fantastic and so nice and my son seems to love her too. When we spoke, she had expressed to me that she has some concerns about my son. She wanted to give him a little more time before she spoke with me, but since we were on the phone she decided to tell me. She told me that my son has been having a very very difficult time with focus and his listening skills. She has expressed how much she really like David and thought...

What to Do with My Daughter During Summer.

My daughter just turned 12 in March. She currently stays home after school for a hour and before school for half a hour before school by herself.
