Xmas Present for Daycare Provider?

My 10-1/2 month old goes daycare. She is now in the 2nd infant room. And now they are moving her to 11-18 month room next week. I know each room has 4 main teachers (2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon) and I am familiar with them all. So, I'm not sure if we are we supposed to get a Xmas present for daycare provider? I am sure it is not expected but it is a nice gesture. If so, should I give to the current teachers she has? Should I just get one gift for the one woman that I think spends the most time with DD?
1) Should I get something for the current teachers?
2) Plus, teachers from the first room?
3) and the teachers in the new room, whom I am not familiar with?
Gift ideas would help and how much per gift.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for al the great advice. I ended up buying little pic frames at Michael's and frame some extra billfold pictures taken at JCPenney (I never know what to do with those billfolds). In the frame, I put a note saying "thank you for taking special care of me". They came out so cute. I gave those to all her old teachers. As for the new teachers, I made brownies and an assortment of cookies (oatmeal, Chocolate chip, and walnut chocolate chip) using those ready mix batters. I did the same for her old teachers and the front desk. I even got a goodie basket from Starbucks for the director.

I would get a gift for all of the teachers she has spent time with. You don't have to spend much though. Here is a good idea that is cheap! Get a 2 liter of coke and tie a bag of microwave popcorn to it. Attach a note that says "Pop! Pop! Fizz, Fizz! What a great teacher you is!" I don't see anything wrong with getting something special for the teachers she spends the most time with. Good Luck!

On ideaa friend had that I'll probably use too was to get a popable bucket of popcorn like from blockbuster and a cnady bar or two and a $5 gift card so basicaly a rent a movie in a bucket gift ends up being like $10-$15 I've seen others add soda or a bigger gift card if you want to spend more

Well, I used to work in daycare also. O can tell you, that your teachers in that room are not the only ones ivolved with your child. That being said, you don't want to throw away money for those who don't do the work either. I would worry about the teacher (primary) who takes care of your child the most. Especially around Christmas, the stores have tons of gift ideas for under $10. A nice bath/soap set. If you are worried about the other teachers, a $5.00 gift card for Walmart or your local store also helps. Teachers of any age group also LOVE art supplies (most of the teachers in day care get paid about $8-9 an hour (no matter what you pay in tuition) and most of the art/craft supplies, pictures of the kids, and special projects come directly from their pockets. Free art and craft supplies are always welcome.

Here's just a little suggestion. I'm not sure I agree with the advice to focus the gift giving on the new teachers and not to get much for the teachers that have been teaching and caring for your child all year. I'd certainly focus on those teachers first and then next Christmas, you can give gifts to her new teachers (which of course, would no longer be considered "new"), he, he.

I find in instances like this it's always nice to bake brownies or cookies. My daughters all have rotating classes so it would be impossible for me to buy gifts for all of their teachers. I buy little gift boxes and bake cookies with a thank you note attatched. It's really the thought of this gift that counts and just knowing that you appreciate them is the gift.

You could always bake some kind of treat, something more for adults, and then you could put them in individual bags and you wouldn't have to spend so much on different things for each of them!

I work at a montessori school and while I am sure I will get many things, I would love something that is hand made, and especially if you can get your daughter to help!!

M. - I have a 2-1/2 year old in daycare and understand how you feel. Although my son has been in the same class for a while...I will buy for both of his teachers. With your daughter just moving up, me personally, I would not buy for the new teachers. I guess I wouldn't buy for the old ones either since she is not in the class anymore. If you do decide to buy for them all, then I would buy something very inexpensive like a candle or a set of dish towels (if you know the have a kitchen)or get them a $10 gift card to Starbucks or something.
I sell Wildtree products - check it out on www.wildtree.com and if you see anything there you may be interested in...email me @ ____@____.com - if we order by tomorrow, we are guranteed delivery by Christmas.

I also suggest baking some cookies or candy for them. You can go to wal-mart or Hobby Lobby etc. to get nice Christmas containers to put them in.

I have 2 suggestions. Buy one box of bath crystals and scoop it into those little bags you can find at Michael's or Hobby Lobby (in the wedding section) and then go to Target and buy a couple of packages of those votive cups and a few little votive candles (very inexpensive) and that makes it affordable to give to each teacher and who needs a relaxing bath more than a day care teacher? Each teacher would get a little bag with enough for one or two baths and a candle. OR you might consider baked goods that they could all share at lunch....

I also have two children in day care... my youngest hasnt moved to another room since august, so i got a small gift for each of the ladies in his room (3). my oldest turns three in january so he starts to transistion to the 3-4 year room this month... again awkward... do i get the new provider something for the holidays?? i decided not to, not because i dont appreciate all that they do, but she hasnt had the chance to create a bond that makes a gift from my son meaningful. i did get something for the previous provider though, she has been so great this last year and even though he has to grow up and move on i felt that it was the least i could do to thank her and show my apprecaition for helping me raise my child for 10 hrs a day while my husband and i are at work.

if you are really close to all the ladies at your child's day care center i would consider a small $5 gift for all of them... maybe like a starbucks gift cerfificate for a coffee or cocoa in a card that shows them how valuable they are in your daughters life... good luck, and happy holidays... J.

I am a teacher, and I say giftcard, giftcard, giftcard...no matter how much $5 or $25. We get way too many knicknacks with nothing to do with them. Also, I am always leary about eating home baked goods, but that may just be me...

Bake them some cookies. Nothing says thanks like homemade goodies. Cookies are easy to eat "on the run" and will be a gift for all teachers, past, present and future, at the same time.

If your child is moving up the a new room, and will be in that room at christmas time, then you would buy for her new teachers, not the old ones. you can still get the old teachers something as a thank you for taking care of your child, but you don't have to.

lotion from bath and body works is a good gift. I don't think they are much. even a christmas ornament, a christmas knick knack so that they can set it out at christmas time. I still have little knick knacks and ornaments that i have had for 2 years and love to put them out. i hope this helps.

I have my son at a mother's day out. He has two teachers most of the day and then other two teachers for the extended hour he stays and then there is the director of the MDO that is the one that always greet him at the begining of the day and she is very much involved with all the kids needs.

The Director and the two main teachers will get a set of body products from either body shop or similar, I was thinking also a cookie jar could be a good idea (Target have three different all of them very cute). The other two teachers will get something just a little cheaper (Maybe the cookie jar LOL).

In the first 3 I am planning to spend aprox $25 per each and the other two less than $20.

Hope this helps, Good luch and happy Holidays!

I worked in daycare for several years. I very rarely got a gift, but it was so nice when I did, even if it was just a card with a picture of the child in it! One of my favorite gifts was a $5 gift card to Starbucks!

Keep in mind that these people care for your child most of the day. They are important in your child's life and they should be important to you as well. So who should get the gift? Some moms give something to the teachers of the classroom (like a package of cookies or other group gift.) You don't want to leave out someone who has been caring for her a long time and will no longer do so, though. Again, a card, a picture, and your thanks (or even a candy bar!) would probably be sufficient. You could bag up peanut brittle or other festive inexpensive candy and hand it out to everyone! :)

We give Starbucks gift cards ranging from $10 -$20 depending on the teacher.

Teachers get a lot of knick knacks and have no where to put them after years of teaching. They can treat themselves to a Starbucks drive thru on the way to teach.

One year I gave gift cards to Cinamark. I put enough money on them for 2 people to see a movie and have a popcorn and soda.
