I'm 5'10'' and before baby I weighed about 150. I gained 55pounds with my pregnancy, and by the time my son was 6 months I had lost those 55punds. But things weren't where they were before...so I got into this GREAT workout routine. I did cardio for 20-30min and then strength training for 20-30min 6-7 days a week. I looked AWESOME last summer. I changed my diet so I was eating heathier, cut out soda, fast food, simple carbs, and ate smaller portions. I lost an additional 15 punds, and I looked so tone. It was the FIRST time EVER that I really liked the way I looked. Around Aug. of last year I lost my motivation...and I am REALLY struggling to get it back. I've gained those 15 pounds back, and not too happy with how saggy my body looks again!

For the last 6weeks I've been working out but very sporadically (1-4days a week), I went back to drinking soda and I'm having a hard time NOT drinking it if it's in the house. (DH likes it and wants it for him to drink), I CRAVE CRAVE CRAVE sweets, baked pastries, candy, ice cream, etc. Any tips on how to beat these cravings, and get my motivation back to work out?? I want my beach body back!!

What can I do next?

Not sure how to help you with motivation or sugar cravings. But I do have this bit of advice for you lack of soda removal support from your husband. Your husband wants his cake and to eat it too. He wants his soda and his skinny wife. I had a nutritionist professor in college who had to work hard to keep her weight down. Her husband was skinny and ate anything he wanted (which was a lot of junk). She simply gave him the choice one day. Skinny wife/ skinny foods or fat wife/ fat foods? You decide. Begrugingly he chose skinny wife/ skinny foods. Give your husband this choice.

I just wanted to say I am in the same boat that you are. I especially crave sweets at night right before I go to bed(the WORST possible time!). I have been good about it lately but it is so hard. When I absolutely have to have something I will eat yogurt with granola on top or a tablespoon of Nutella with a handful of pretzels. I also had an issue with Coke Zero. I drank 2 a day for the longest time. I gave up all soda's for Lent and have missed them so much! I have traded my addiction to Coke's for Diet Snapple Peach Tea. It is awesome!

As for exercise, I have been doing Zumba twice a week for almost a year now. It's not much, but it's something. The only reason I have stuck with it is because it is so much fun! Having friends with you makes it even better. I am in better shape and health now than I have been in the past 10 years. I would highly suggest trying out a class if you have never been. I leave feeling like I have ran for an hour.
Here's to you for all of the effort you have put forth!

the only way to not crave the sweets is to totally eliminate them from your diet. Try reading Sugar Busters! or look into the South Beach Diet. As for the motivation, I can't really help you there, but you could try online support groups like SparkPeople.com or Couch to 5k newsletters or something similar. I have support in my husband because we both want to lose weight and get healthier, we have Wii Fit Plus for days when we can't get out (wet weather or 100+ degrees here), do kettle bell work outs a few days a week and are going to start Couch to 5k again--I find variety helps us keep with it.

I used to crave sweets all the time too. I know how hard it can be, but try to cut the junky sweets out. Get them out of the house, your desk, etc. After the first couple of weeks, your cravings should ease off and make live more bearable. Try dried fruit (look for products where the fruit is the only ingredient) or fresh fruit. It will give you the sweet without such a crash that only leaves you craving more. Knowing how great you looked and felt when you were healthier can be your motivation!! Also, keep in mind how what you are doing influences your child's eating habits. It's hard!!! I struggled to lose 30 pounds. Now, I am pregnant and still very conscientious of what I eat so that I can gain healthy weight and nourish the baby. I also chew sugar free in gum in a fruity flavor for some sweetness in a pinch. For working out- I have to find something I truly love doing. For me right now, its yoga. Maybe do a session or two with a peronsal trainer to help you design a new workout that will challenge you and work with your schedule and goals. Best of luck to you.

Yeah, I know how it is with the sweets! It sounds like we have similar bodies, and I'm just on the sweets kick right now. If I could stop for a few days, I know the cravings would go away, but it's hard!
I do have soda suggestions though. Try making your own iced tea with green tea and a few herbal teas for added flavor. I like lemon and mint with my green, but peach is good too, or even berry. The green tea tamps down your appetite, and it might seem like a good enough (zero calorie) alternative to soda. Otherwise, a mix of juice and sparkling water has fewer calories than soda. I'd ask hubby to have a soda-free week or even just two or three days to get you started. Like Jane said, he probably liked the beach bod too! Wish I could help with the working out--I'm having trouble gettting back into running which is something I actually enjoy--both the food and workouts are about momentum, but maybe cutting out the soda would be enough to get you on the healthy track. Good luck! You aren't alone. ;-)
