I have an evenflo tribute 5 DLX carseat. every once in a while when i go to get the baby(8mnths old) the chest clip is opened or halfway opened. HAs anyone else had this happen? Is my carseat defective, or am I just not hooking it all the way?

What can I do next?

When you snap it do you hear the snap or feel it? Sometimes I have to push mine pretty hard together to get them to snap. I have an evenflo too. If it snaps together and is somehow pulling apart it may be defective. Try snapping it and then pulling it apart without pushing the tabs in. It shouldn't come apart, if it does it's defective. There are a few car seat check places this weekend if your in the buffalo area. You could have one of them check it out. The schedule is on wgrz.com. Good luck. Hope this helped.

Yea, never EVER wonder, take it to the police department or State troopers. They are wonderful, helpful and so very understanding, they wont make you feel stupid. The troopers in Clay, they installed both seats in my vehicles and it went quick and I learned how to do it right.

The clip may be chipped & not latching properly. You can buy a replacement clip at Toys R Us, Walmart or many other places that sell baby stuff. There are many different types of clips too, so don't just serch for an Evenflo brand. You may find the costco clip or another type would work better for you & still keep your baby just as safe. I've seen them range in price form around $3 - $25. They all work basically the same way. Good luck threading it through the straps of the car seat. (It's really not that hard) If your car seat cushion or belts could use a washing, save yourself a bit of frustration & throw them in the washing machine before you put on the new clip.
I've had to replace car seat clips a few times. Don't worry that the car seat is defective at all, I'm sure it is not. Plastic breaks.

Even if you can not find any damage to your current clip you may want to change it anyway, so you have one that is easier to use.

My daughter was about the same age when I started to notice her buckle was undone. I have a different carseat, but my daughter was getting it open some how. And she still does it and she is now 2. I would keep an eye on it and if the car seat is defective you could try to exchange it for a new one.

Goodmorning C......

I have not used a carseat in 19 years however I do alot of web searches for people and I have a health care library of my own. Here is a link to help you with EvenFlow 5 CLX carseat
in how to put a car seat on appropriately. It also gives a phone number should you need to get the lock for the clip that needs to be used for the clip the clip that keeps opening up. It sounds defective or a piece is missing a part.

I hope this helps you resolve the problem for your little one. I am the mother of a 35 yo son and a 20 yo daughter who is in her 2nd yr of college. I too had a defective car seat for my son and I took it back had it replaced immediately.

I recently purchased a new carseat for my 14 month old at Baby's R Us. I didn't purchase the one you had, but the sales lady told me that they sell the chest clips seprately for graco and evenflo because they tend to break frequently. They sell for other carseat brands as well, but she told me evenflo and graco tend to break the most.

Call your local police department. They will usually inspect your carseat, it's installation and how you use it for free. Most departments have one or more officers that are specifically trained in this. They also should have a list of recalled carseats, although you can find that online.
