Hello Mamas,

I am looking for some opinions about which one you would choose and why? I currently have a good Dell desktop computer but I am looking for something smaller to use on the go. What are the pros and cons that you have seen with any of these listed. I will not be using this as my full time computer and will not be storing a lot of pictures on it.
Thanks for your help.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Mac product. I have never, ever had an issue with any Apple stuff. Once you go Mac, you never go back!

Depends on what you want to do with it. IPad does not do anything involving flash so many websites do not work at all or are limited. The aps are great though. We love ours and get a lot of use out of it! We have the lowest version with just wifi as we didn't want to pay for another data plan(I have an iPhone) and didn't need all the cameras and videos of the higher models.

I would take the MacBook Air just because it can do everything you will ever need. However, that being said, I have no idea what uses you really need so it is hard to say if you can go with something like the IPad.

Here are some thoughts:

- We have a very high end Dell laptop and have constant problems with it, I am partial to Macs because they are easier to fix yourself and they do not get viruses so I might not be the most unbias opinion.

- The IPad is cool but ultimately I only like it with a keyboard and other accessories so I may as well get a laptop. I do a lot of graphics though so the IPad is somewhat limiting to me.

- I currently have a MacBook Air and love it, very quick, no problems, and I haven't had any limitations yet

My brother has the IPad and all he does is photos, internet, basic documents and such so they seem to be fine with it.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

If what you are doing is keyboard intensive, I would suggest the MacBook. If not, the iPad.

I don't like windows software. I used to develop solely on Windows in my professional life. After all the constant updates windows started to apply to my OS daily, my computer became so bogged down it would take forever for it to start up. My husband purchased me a MacBook 4 years ago. I love it!!! I will never go back to Windows technology!!!

Probably within the next year or so, we will be in the market for a new computer also. I plan to go with a MacBook (not sure which one yet) because everyone I know who has a Mac, loves it. Also they are much less prone to viruses than a windows-based computer. I mentioned this to my dad and he (a computer programmer) pointed out that I will have to learn a whole new operating system, but it's not like I do much work on/with the operating system I have now, and if the Macs are less prone to problems, I don't see that being a big factor. The thing I AM worried about is that all my software currently is windows-based. I've heard there is a product you can buy that will make your windows software work for a Mac computer but I don't know much about it, or how much it costs, etc. If I were you I'd go talk to someone at the Apple store and see if they can answer those kinds of questions before making a decision.

We have 3 Dell laptops.

Mine.... almost 4 yrs old, high end $3000 range loaded. NEVER an issue whatsoever. I run our company financials on it and I must have a dependable laptop.

hubby....Dell that is not as loaded as mine, less than $1500 and loves it. Again, no issues whatsoever except for a minor issue when a key came off the keyboard. Within 24 hours, the Dell service tech was at our house and had a new keyboard installed within 1/2 hr.

daughter.... about a 3 yr old Dell. Very good for her to use for homework, lots of pictures, lots of data because she does all homework and research on it as well as social networks. Again, No issue excpet for a minor problem because she had a tendance to pick it up by the top and a couple screws came loose. Dell tech was here within 24 hours and she was on the roll again within minutes.

We LOVE our Dells. Hubby got his at Best Buy. Daughter and I got ours from Dell directly.

I know the Macs are supposed to be very good and worth the money. We are quite loyal to Dell because we've had no major issues and excellent service.

I have an old Sony Vaio laptop, which sits in the case. I used to use it to show brides their photos until online galleries became so easy. The only other real use I had for it was to take with me to a workshop where I needed Photoshop. The computer was so old it was ridiculously slow and the version of Photoshop I had loaded was extremely old. So I vowed to not spend that kind of money on a boat anchor again.

I just loaded itunes on my iPad and am ready to go. It is so light 1.5 lbs, I wont have a problem taking it on the go!

I have an Ipad and for basic internet (we just got it with WIFI so we didn't pay for the plan) it's great, portable and easy to use. I have my itunes, a couple of movies and books on it. It is really nice for when you're stuck sitting in an ER or doctor's office and are bored out of your mind.

I have a Dell laptop which has been a lemon since day one and is currently doing the death dance so I'll be replacing it soon. I would love a Macbook pro but that's a little out of my range.

I love my iPad I use it constantly and take it everywhere. I have a good Mac desktop, a good Mac.PowerBook that I use a lot for heavy production, but it is my iPad that I love. I got one with 3G as well as wifi and yesterday when I got turned around and got lost traveling from my sister's in Frisco to Nacodoches after dark I pulled over turned on my iPad and asked it to find me and then to give me directions home. (all of this in the maps app that comes with the iPad). My problem was quickly solved and I got home safely. I don't know how I lived without it, it is like trying to think of going back to cooking without a microwave - I know I did that for years but I never want to do it again!
