Which Disposable Diaper Smell or Don't Smell?

I have no idea what to title this..but here is my question. I am getting tired of blowouts using Huggies Supremes. I was thinking of changing to another diaper to see if it stops but I can not take the smell of Pampers! That horrible fake baby powder smell sets off my asthma every time I'm around them..yes, even one on my child-I tried a sample once with one of my sons when they were little. What brands don't smell like Pampers do? Luvs, Costco or store brands? If they don't blow out even better. I don't know if it's just my daughter or if they've messed with the diapers. I used them with my first 2 and didn't have nearly the issues I've had with my daughter. At least she's wearing a lot of her clothes despite out growing them so fast, she goes through sometimes 3 outfits a day. The Huggies "snug & dry" she was blowing out up to her neck!

So What Happened?

Since we needed to go to Costco & so many of you said good things we bought a box of Kirkland. She's a sz 3 instead of the 2 in Huggies. They've held up so far. Don't know if it was the size or the diaper or both but it's been nice to keep the same outfit on all day ;) I miss the Disney characters now though LOL

I'm just the opposite... I don't mind the pampers smell but hate the huggies smell!

BUT... I've gotten to where I can't stand either of them. I now use cloth diapers and they don't smell at all. I know someone mentioned the bum genius pocket diaper... It's a great one, especially if you're just getting into cloth. My favorite is Goodmama. It's a pocket diaper and you use a cover with it. So far I've had NO leaks with it, even with my daughter's once-a-week blowouts. I once tried putting her in 2 disposables layered and she still busted through it. But with the goodmamas, we're keeping clean.

I have always been a huge fan of the Costco diapers. Recently I have tried the Walmart and Target brands, and have been very satisfied with both. I now only buy the Target Up&Up they don't have a smell.

Good Luck

We used the 7th Generation diapers and liked them very much - they do not have that horrible smell that Pampers have.

I have not tried either, but have heard that both the Target brand and Costco brand diapers are pretty good.

I used to be a pampers cruisers user with my son but when my daughter came along I decided to try to Kirkland brand. Never looked back. No smell, the fit was great. Don't recall any leaking issues. I did have a bad leaking issue with the Huggies brand. I tried all the others, name brand to store brand and like the Costco brand best.

good luck

We love Nature Babycare available at Target. They have no chemicals, all natural and biodegradable disposables.

Hi Katrina,

My son used to have blow outs too. What I would do is buy the next size up and that seemed to solve the problem. So, if your daughter is currently wearing a size 2, try the size 3. I really like the huggies diapers the best, but they seem to outgrow them prior to the weight they list on packaging.

Good luck!

Try the huggies regulars. My son would blow out the supremes and any other brand except huggies regular brand. He just has a "substantial" rearend and going bigger just leaked it out the legs.
Once he got bigger (3-4 mo) I was able to use the Walmart white cloud which are the same style and much cheaper.
Good Luck

Never had an issue with Huggies, but my friend who did has used Target's brand on her kiddos and she loves it. No stinky blowouts. Yes, I also did the buy one size up thing and it helped a lot. I personally didn't like Luvs because the tape (adhesive) seemed to always break or tear.

Also, just an FYI Kirkland Brand products don't rate very well on many of the Baby Safe products lists.

Perhaps you're buying the wrong size diaper for your little one. I am a Famly Child Care Provider for over 20 years....and Pampers are pretty much the only diaper I really prefer NOT to use for the purpose. I do like huggies...I'm guessing the diapers are just to big..try the next smaller size..you'll also get more diapers for your money

Costco diapers are great, no smell. Never had issues with leakage, etc. on either of my two kids (we used the 7th Generations with my son and those always leaked). I have a 2 year old boy and 10 1/2 month old girl and so far so good on the Cotscos.

I soo know what you mean! I HATE pampers. The little boy I used to babysit's mom used those and would bring boxes of them to my house (for her son to use) and I could not stand it - I wanted to throw up everytime I smelled one!!

Kinda unusual, but for me the cheapest diapers seemed to be the best - either Luvs or 'Parent's Choice' brand from Sam's Club or WalMart.

Good luck!!

I know you asked about disposables, but I use cloth diapers and they don't smell like anything. You know that smell when a disposable has urine in it (I really don't like that chemical/urine), they don't get that either. We use bumGenius One Size, they go from 7 to 35 pounds, and I love them. Just like disposables going on, and they really don't take that much time to wash. We also NEVER have blow outs or leaks. We had some when he was very young (he is now 13 months), but that was mostly because he only went poop every week or two. When you have that much coming out at one time, you can't really expect it not come out of the diaper :) We also use cloth wipes with only water, so much better than disposable wipes. No smell, and no rash.

Buy Target brand - they are the best. They don't smell and they don't leak, and they are pretty much the cheapest.

I use SEVENTH GENERATION DIAPERS. They are more natural than the leading brands so I can feel like I am helping the environment. They work great and hold a lot of pee.
I found that getting them on auto ship through Amazon.com I can get them for a more reasonable price.

GREAT DIAPERS!

The Costco diapers don't have a smell.

I started buying the Kirkland brand because the style is similar to Huggies with the elastic waist band and they were cheaper. But the Kirkland quality seems to be better than Huggies: better feel, fabric, stretch, etc.

I had leaks with the Huggies, but the Kirkland brand has really held up. Unfortunately you do have to buy a lot, but perhaps a friend can lend you a couple to try out.

Good luck.

I just recently decided to start trying store brands after years of Pampers and (mostly) Luvs. I've never had problems with blowouts, so I can't help you with that part of your question. I've noticed that neither the WalMart(Parent's Choice) or Target(Up&Up) brands have a powdery smell. I prefer the Up&Up brand because you also don't smell the pee as much as the Parents Choice brand. My son drinks and pees a lot and has never leaked out of them, so I would highly recommend the Up&Up brand, I'll probably start buying those exclusively from now on. Plus they're a lot cheaper than Huggies Supremes! Good luck finding the right ones for your little one.

I agree Pampers smell also bugs me. I have 4 kids and huggies worked great for the older two but then they started linking about a year ago when they changed the design. I use parents choice wipes unscented and their diapers. What a nice difference no leaks and almost half the price!!!

I've always used huggies supremes and had great luck with both of my kids! Always had massive blow outs with Pampers swaddlers and LUVs. A friend of mine just gave me a whole box of Costco diapers that her daughter grew out of and I love them!! They have no scent, no leaks so far! My son (11 mos) can go the whole night in one diaper which is pretty full in the morning and sometimes even poop early in the morning and no blow out!! I would try these Costco brand. Good luck!

I'm devoted to the Walmart brand--Parent's Choice. These are fantastic diapers SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper than name brand diapers. Walmart diapers are around $14 for a box of about 90 size four diapers--breaks down to around 14-15 cents a diaper. (My numbers may be a little off...but trust me, they are the most inexpensive ones I've found and work exceptionally well). Name brand diapers can easily cost in the 20+ cents per diaper. And let me tell you, inexpensive in this case DOES NOT equal poor quality. The Walmart diapers fit well on my son, great elasticity, I've never had a blow out, and they are unscented. I used to get Target brand but they started not fitting well as my little boy grew bigger. I tried Walmart's and absolutely LOVE them. I highly recommend them! :)

hi. i use the kirkland (costco) brand diapers for all my kids and never have leaks or issues with blowouts. they are similar in make-up to huggies, but huggies always left those stupid little pieces of the inside if the diaper on my kids after all night or a long car ride (you know, they look like little pieces of gel?). anyways, i switched over to kirkland for both diapers and wipes and have had no issues whatsoever. and they are fragrance free. try them, i promise that you'll be happy. btw, luvs smell just like pampers. my middle child was the blow-out king, and i used powder in all his diapers to help absorb the mess. they make fragrance free stuff, its just a little more expensive. good luck

costco is the best store brand diaper ive ever used! its better than huggies for sure, although pampers are my favorite brand, because of how soft they are, that is obviously out of the question!
if i werent using pampers i would use costco brand. they dont smell like anything and they are suuuuper absorbent! one time i forgot to change my 1 yr olds peed in diaper when i put him to bed and he got up the next morning and the diaper had at least doubled in size but there were no leaks!!
good luck finding the right diaper!

I'm not sure about smell, but try going up a size in diapers. My kids tended to have more blow-outs/leaks when their diapers were too snug fitting.

Myself, I've used Costco brand with both of my kids. The great thing about Costco, if you don't like them you can take them back for a refund.
