Where to Start for Finding a Part Time Job?

I have an only child and when she started K I was lost. I was at her school volunteering so much that the principal asked me to get qualified to substitute teach. I have a degree...she said..you are here so much and the children love you..you might as well get paid for it.

So I have been a substitute teacher at the 1 elementary school since 2000. I work when I want to, most of my jobs are preplanned. I have scaled back this year to focus on our family business but I love going to teach....it is my mental break day when I get to be with the children.

School is a great idea, often they are looking for classroom help, though if you are public school the timing on that isn't great. Check out craigslist under ETC and Part Time. Consider starting your own part time gig, if you do babysitting, mystery shopping, pet sitting, house cleaning on your own you can set your schedule to be available for school activities, etc.

I had a tough time finding something worthwhile and PT when my son was younger. I decided that I wanted flexible hours to work around my family's schedule, as well as to be able to pick when I wanted to work. For me, starting my own business was the right thing because I had this kind of control. It also meant that I was responsible for my own success, but I like knowing that I am working for my family, and in charge of my own destiny, if you will. I sell children's books and do local French Markets, book fairs, teacher's conferences and expo's- very part time. It was a good choice for us, and I am thankful it's been successful for me. Try looking for part-time jobs at her school. Many Moms do that.
Talk to the office staff.. and see what there is. They don't always publicize it.
