When Your Toddler Learn to Pull down Her Underwear to Go to the Potty?

While my toddler was learning to go to the potty I let her be underwear/diaper free around the house but now that she is doing well I start putting underwear. Problem is that she doesn't pull down her underwear down, she just go and sits in the potty with it.
I try to stop her before she goes but it seems that she is always waiting to the last minute to go and she refuses to put her underwear down.
Is this common? Is there any trick that was helpful to you?

With me, I just tried too open the fly of my underwear. I am of severe/profound mental retardation. The same for her. She, must just try, too pull the bottom and back of her underwear.

How old is she?

Each child is different.
It has to do not per 'age'... but per the child's fine-motor skills and coordination

My daughter, would do it at 2 years old and fully undress/dress.
My son is 4... and only at 4 years old, could he do it.
Although he is very athletic and coordinated in other ways.

all the best,
Susan

my 1.5 year old does pull down sometimes but need help my 2.5 year old can pull down but needs help with pulling them up again (mostly on the backside) I start PT as soon as they are supported sitters. I use pull up on busy days and at night, otherwise I let them run arround in their undies.
They wait untill the last minute because the last minute is when they finally realise they have to go...this gets better as time goes on. :)

DS (2.5) does this sometimes. He CAN do it, and if he goes on his own, he will. We put him in pullups, mostly.
However, if I tell him it's time to go sit on the potty, he'll hop up there without pulling off his pants, so I have to remind him.

I think it's a "state of mind" thing.

Yes! With me, I loved my dark blue stripe underwear, that I always pulled up my dark blue stripe underwear! I even, loved my dark blue stripe underwear, even if I peed in the potty, seriously peeing in my dark blue stripe underwear, crying bitterly, even more than a girl, spreading my legs! Then, I just try too get over seriously peeing in my dark blue stripe underwear, by trying too take a nap! Than, my bitter crying seriously peeing in my dark blue stripe underwear ends, once I can take a nap, which I then love getting over seriously peeing in my dark blue stripe underwear! After my nap, I then try too get over being in my seriously wet dark blue stripe underwear! Later on, I then tried too open the fly of my dark blue stripe underwear, which I less seriously wet my dark blue stripe underwear, and cried less bitterly, which I spreaded my legs, and then get over peeing in my dark blue stripe underwear, by taking a nap! Then, I try too feel good, in my dark blue stripe underwear! After the nap, then I feel good in my wet dark blue stripe underwear, by spreading my legs, which I then try too smile, in my wet dark blue stripe underwear! I am of profound mental retardation! The same for her! She, must love her new dark blue stripe underwear, that she always pulls up her new dark blue stripe underwear! She, must even love her new dark blue stripe underwear, even if she seriously pees in her new dark blue stripe underwear, and cries bitterly! Then, she spreads her legs, which she tries too get over seriously peeing in her new dark blue stripe underwear, then trying too take a nap! Then, her bitter crying, seriously peeing in her new dark blue stripe underwear, comes too an end, once she can take a nap! Then, she can get over seriously peeing in her new dark blue stripe underwear! After her nap, then she just spreads her legs, which she then, tries too get over seriously peeing in her new dark blue stripe underwear! Then, she tries too pull the bottom and back of her new dark blue stripe underwear, which she less seriously pees in her new dark blue stripe underwear, crying less bitterly! I had the same issue with my son. He would just wait for me to pull them down. I had to teach him how to pull them down and up. He was resistent at first but eventually got it. You just have to keep at it.

My daughter did it at 2.5 when she fully potty trained but I never did the commando route. She has been undressing herself and dressing herself since about 18 mos old (over and over and over again -- picking out new clothes each time; we broker her of that recently by getting her some dress up clothes). My son is 2 yrs 3 mos right now and is VERY lazy about pulling his pants or pullup down (he expects us to do it for him) -- but he is lazy about getting dressed/undressed altogether. We are always in a rush so we always have just done it to get it done faster. We are working with him. He goes on the potty about 5 or 6 times a day (pee and poop) but still has about 1 or 2 accidents a day in his pull-up. We are moving to underwear this weekend (if I find the time to buy them - ha!). Wow- I am sure you have a lot of underwear to clean :( No good! Maybe you need to try her every hour or hour and a half more on a schedule than waiting until she is about to pee herself to head to the bathroom. Maybe that would help.

my daughter wears a diaper/panties while we are trying to potty train. so she is used to having to wait a second to have them pulled down. i'm trying to teach her to pull down her panties and pull them back up, but most of the time she's in such a hurry i have to do it for her to get it done in time. they best thing you can do is to go in the bathroom with her each time to make sure it gets done. its a learning experience. eventually she will catch on
