When Will He Walk?

My some is 13mos. and does the same thing - he races around the house behind this silly hippo he got for Christmas, but refuses to walk onhis own. I have decided he just knows that it is easier and safer to hold on to something than to do it on his own. Besides he is a speed deamon with the crawling - and knows he can get around quickly that way. I was worried too, but everyone told me to be patient and be glad that he isn't walking alone yet!!!

Don't fret. You're doing the right thing. My son didn't walk until he was 16 and a half months old. He did the same things your son is doing now (pushing chairs around). He's being overly cautious, but there is nothing wrong. When you and everyone else stops making a big deal out of it, he will take off. I finally gave up one day and literally a week later my son stood up, looked around, and walked right to the kitchen. I'm the one who fell trying to keep up with him after that! That's my advice. Boy's are stubborn, not slow. They just take their sweet time with everything. He'll walk soon. Take care and I hope he continues to be joy. They grow up way to fast, don't they?

My daughter was 16 months. It was the same way, everyone asking if she was walking yet. Once she started though, she was a pro in no time. I think she was just very cautious.

I don't remember exactly when my daughter started walking but it was around 10 months. My son was 14 months before he started walking. We tried everything to get him to start. But it sort of just comes in its own time. I left him with my mom for a few hours one afternoon and when I got back she asked me when he had started walking. He just walked around her house like he'd always done it.

My son was 16 months when he finally let go of the couch and all of the things he was "crusing" on. We were almost going to have him checked out. As long as your son is using the same muscles, and it sounds like he is, he should be fine.

Don't worry about him not walking yet. I have two boys and a step-son, neither one of my sons started walking until they were around 14-15 months. Some boys walk later and some walk earlier. Don't compare to other kids and don't let people make you worry. If he is standing up and pushing things around, then he will eventually start to let go and get going. Just enjoy all the new milestones.

Have you tried walking with him on top of your feet, I patented a set of adult slippers that have baby slippers velcroed onto the top, i had the idea with my daughter, i don't know if its what helped her walk so early, but she did, turning the top slippers around and dancing was fun too, other than that i would like to ask you if he has any grandparents that he might idolize that use walkers? A friend of mines boy would only walk w/o help when he wasn't around his grandparents (who both used walkers)

My son didn't walk until he was 18 months old. I got so frustrated with everyone asking if he was walking and the looks on their faces when I would say no. Then, I read that children who have to work harder to walk often end up being disciplined athletes later on in life and decided not to worry about it and let him take his time. Sure enough, he finally got interested in walking and actually practiced it by walking the same routes through the house over and over and going a little farther everyday. He did the same with riding his trike. Once he got started he never stopped! Now, at three his preschool teachers have remarked on his advanced coordination, and he is doing some things that other kids his age can't do yet. By all means, if it will give you peace of mind to have him checked then take him to the doctor, but I really don't think you have a thing to worry about. He will do it when he is ready and no one can say when the perfect age is!

Yes, some boys sre later than girls.(My daughter was earlier than my son on everything except potty training. He rocked on that!:)

He will walk when he is ready. My daughter started at around 10 months, and I don't think her sister is going to be far behind in that aspect. But really he is not behind yet, most children really don't start attempting to walk till at least a year and it takes a while to get the hang of it. With my oldest my husband would hold her hands and she would be standing and if she got mad about something he would let her go and she would be standing there stomping and then realize it and sit down, it was the funniest thing. But you will be surprised one day he will just take off, especially since he has enough practice with holding onto things and doing it, so be ready to sprint after him, cause when they get going they really go.

my son was 14 months and my daughter was 15 months. maybe try sitting a few feet away from your husband and seeing if he'll try going back and forth. don't worry, it'll happen.

My 8 year old was a preemie and was developmentally delayed. She didn't start walking until 20 months. She stood and stood for months but wouldn't step. We even got her a medical walker from a physical therapist to see if it would help. When my husband and I moved in together, his 2 daughters and my other daughter were always playing and my little one decided she wanted to be part of the fun. She just started walking one day, and practically took off running. She was really steady on her feet too, rarely falling. Her late takeoff hasn't affected her ability to keep up with her peers at all.

M. your baby is just fine. Each one develops at their own rate. Not just with walkign but talking etc... It's hard not to caompare our children to each other but know that will only =add to your worries. my 1st was about 18 mos. my second 11 mos. my 3rd 12 mos. They are all their own lilttle people. You are doing a gerat job so just enjoy them where they are. J.:)

Your son is right on track. My son started the same way. We did exactly what one of the moms suggested. When he was cruising the coffee table we would sit a little bit away and encourage him to come to us and then eventually he took a couple of steps and then before we knew it he was off and running.

I AM THE MOTHER OF TWO A TWO YEAR OLD SON AND A 9 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER. MY SON DID NOT START WALKING ON HIS OWN TILL HE WAS ALMOST 15 MONTHS OLD. HE WOULD WALK WHILE WE HUNG ON TO HIM. BUT HE WOULD NEVER LET GO.THEN ONE DAY I WAS PLAYING WITH HIM AND HE JUST TOOK OFF.
