So my husband and i have been watering down our almost three year old sons juice until about two weeks ago when he started drinking it from the juice boxes and he had been doing fine no runny diapers which had been the case up until then. but then i bought him Capris sun today and it started again. is there that big of a difference between the organic juice boxes to the capris sun things?? could the sugar cause this?? I had been very timid about giving him juice in the frist place always just ordering him water when we went out and what not i was realy excited when he started being able to handle it without getting a tummy ache from it. So is there an age in which they can process it better and do you think there is a difference between the two juices??

What can I do next?

Juice really isn't much better than koolaid; it's just the sugar and water left from the fruit. If you want the benefits of fruit, then give fruit. There's nothing wrong with drinking water. Much of the obesity today (including in children) is at least partly due to juice, or any sugary drinks. It's bad for the teeth as well. I was just talking to a dentist friend the other day who said that juices fortified with calcium aren't as bad on the teeth - so if you must, then at least go for that. I have a B.S. in Nutrition, and that's my opinion. We eat a lot of fruit, and only have juice (or any flavored drinks) for a rare treat.

Ingredients...

Organic Juice
Filtered Water, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Pineapple, Organic White Grape, Organic Orange and Organic Lemon Juice Concentrates, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Organic Natural Flavor.

Capri Sun
Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Pear, Apple & Strawberry Juice Concentrates; citric Acid; Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C); Vitamin E Acetate; Natural Flavor.

My kids are organic kids. There is a clear reason why your son isn't tolerating Capri Sun's very well. I would switch back to organics and see if his poop'n issue subsides. I have never watered down my kids' juice.

I agree with the rest of the responses go back to 100% juice drinks and he should be fine! Our kids don't get any juice unless it's 100% juice! And the only juice we water down in orange juice because too much citrus not good at least for our kids!!

Four words... High Fructose Corn Syrup. Capri Sun is not juice. It is drinkable juicelike substance. Stick with juices that have one or 2 ingredients (apples, oranges, grapes and water). Or at the very least one that says 100% juice. Tree Top makes a great apple juice. Trader Joes also has 100% juice boxes that my son loves. Capri Sun is nothing but sugar.

If he (or you) really like the idea of the Carpi Sun's I have found them in a 100% juice version (bought at Costco a while back). We only drink 100% juices without the dyes and colorings for all the same reasons listed already. My older kiddo thinks these are fun treats since the package looks the same! :)

I never watered down juice - unless you count the ice that I put into the sippy cup. My kids got their first juice at about 12 months - but only a sip or two. (I didn't want them to fill up on juice.) I don't offer them juice every day - it's a special treat. At 18 months my twins might get four to eight ounces of juice in an entire week. My four year old son gets to pick between juice and chocolate milk (Ovaltine) - so it's about a 50/50 shot for him - but he'll get about eight ounces of one or the other in a day.

We don't have any trouble.

Another thought for you.... my son does better with white grape juice based boxes- Welch's does a good one that is pure juice. The apple juice runs through him, and upset tummies.
And I agree with the high fructose corn syrup. Even fruit snacks make a difference. Costco offers 100% juice fruit treats, where as the fruit snacks from grocery stores are usually only corn syrup and dye.

I would just like to add that juice is not part of a balanced nutritious diet. My son is five, and if I do give him juice I water it down because it will last longer, cost less, and not fill him up on empty calories so quickly. Drs. recommend fresh whole fruit or water instead of juice. Milk is another one. One cup a day is the healthy limit. It is hard to digest and fills kids up. Water will always remain the best thing for the body at any age.
