Just got confirmation that my family is coming for Thanksgiving weekend. This is their second year in a row to come. We went to the Stockyards and The JFK Memorial last year. I am wondering if any of you can suggest some other ideas for things for us to do. My father, my sister and her 2 young boys(5 and 2 years old) are coming. Thank you so much for any suggestions.

The ICE exhibit at the Gaylord hotel in Grapevine should be worth a visit. You would want to buy tickets in advance as I imagine Thanksgiving weekend would be really busy. We went to the one in Florida a few years ago and it's really "cool" - something folks of all ages will enjoy. Also the Gaylord Riverwalk themed restaurant has a nice breakfast buffet (not cheap, but has tons of food choices to suit ANY diet).

This could be a good time to take the kids to the park. It's free. It should not be to awfully cold and the kids can play, blow off steam, and the grown ups can visit. Most people don't go to the park at this time, so it should not be crowded.

You might try a park you don't normally take your daughter to. It will entertain her longer if it is something new.

You might want to have a back up plan in case it's too cold or bad weather. The Science Place is great, but it can get expensive. It has a lot of hands on for the kiddos.

Hope that helps!!!

I 2nd the Ice Exhibit at the Gaylord Texan and the Trains at Northpark. I think the Dallas World Aquarium downtown is better than the Aquarium in Fair park.

The Parade of Lights through Downtown Ft. Worth is over that weekend - either the Fri. or Sat. night. It is pretty cool to watch. Doesn't cost any money to see it, though you want to get there early to get a good spot.

I would try taking them to the Dallas Aquarium, the Omni Theater at the Museum in Fort Worth (the Kidspace is really cool there for the kids!), the Fort Worth Zoo is really great depending on the weather, the shops at the Town Square in South Lake (Santa Claus is coming that weekend!), Jumping Party of Fort Worth (for the kids to burn off steam), The Night of Lights in Granbury and The Trains exhibit at North Park. One word of caution about the ICE exhibit - it is so cold in the exhibit that I literally had to run through it with our son who was 2 at the time - and it was expensive. It is a great place for adults, but not so great for the little ones! Have fun - there are so many fun things to do here at that time of year!

Something that all of the women in my family have been doing for years is we go to Neiman Marcus in downtown Dallas on that friday. It won't be as crazy as all of the other shopping places. It is actually pretty calm. We don't buy anything but my mother-in-law always buys their holiday plate they have every year ($25, I think). It is BEAUTIFULLY decorated every year. It really gets us in the Christmas spirit. We go to every floor and walk around. Then, for lunch, we either go to the restaurant they have there or somewhere else for lunch. (they have a coffee shop on the first floor, too). The restaurant is very good and they have a buffet that day every year. I think it costs around $50 a person (pretty pricey), but worth it for a special day! Have fun!
