Ill try to be brief, I got my period Oct 20th and it lasted its normal 5-6 days. It was abnormally heavy for me on the first day and quite painful but after24 hrs went back to normal. Fast forward to yesterday. I started spotting just when I wiped and it was brownish (sorry tmi) then it turned more red as the day went on. But again really only when I wiped. I have never spotted in my life so all this is new to me. I called the dr and have an appt later this week but Im worried. My husband got snipped 2 yrs ago so it shouldnt/ better not be that Im pregnant, especially so soon after my period, it just doesnt make sense. Im in my early 30s and have 2 kids. I keep track of my cycle and for the last year it has been very regular and normal, 28-31 day cycle so I have no clue what could be causing this.
Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

Yep - 2 kids, mid 30s? That's when it started for me, too. Perimenopause. The start of lots of weird changes tied to shifting hormones.

Sounds like mid-cycle spotting. It happens, sometimes even with some cramping they call mittelshmerz. I highly doubt that you would be pregnant.

There's a great book by Dr Toni Weschler "Taking Charge of your Fertility". Worth checking it out from the library.

Mama,

Your hormones are changing. Talk with your mom and find out when she started going to menopause or even peri-menopause.

Red blood is fresh blood. Brown blood is old blood. Are you under a lot of stress? Have there been any major changes to your life that might affect you?

I wish I could help you. I don't know what it could be.

Some people get spotting during ovulation. You would be right in that zone, right? About day 14?

Don't panic. This sort of thing occurs all the time. And please don't feel that you need to hold back details for fear of TMI - we can't help if you don't share details, and no one's going to be surprised if you have to be graphic when the first sentence tells us this is about periods.

Mid-cycle bleeding is very common and doesn't indicate anything's wrong. It's common that the bleeding shows when you wipe - there's not enough for it to stain your underwear or be obvious in the toilet. I agree that brown blood is older blood (could just be collecting in the vagina until the redder blood (fresher) or gravity pushed it out.

Try not to worry about other things like fibroids or polyps - yes, they are possible, but it's way too soon to worry. There are a zillion things that can cause bleeding, and many of them require no treatment - hormones are not precise mechanisms, and sometimes these things just happen. You're doing the right thing getting checked out, but don't be surprised if the doctor can't find anything at all. Certainly you should not panic.

This will sound strange but have you lost weight or fat?

Sometimes I spot, and actually have another very quick cycle, when I start to gain muscle and cut fat through strength training. But the first time it ever happened to me was in my early 40's. I've read that we store hormones in our fat (?).

I would talk to my OB/GYN and possibly look at hormone testing.

Cycles change as we age (welcome to your 30s!) but only your doctor can tell you for sure if it's anything to be alarmed about.

I had spotting like that when I was your age and it was a fibroid and a polyp.
