What Comes After Size 7X in Boys' Jeans?

My 7 year old has just begun to get a little too big around the belly for his size 7x jeans. I've tried size 8 and of course, when you go to that size, you no longer have the elastic in the waist so they're too small. I bought some 9's and they fit pretty good around the waist, but I'll have to cut them off and hem them up. Any suggestions out there?????

What can I do next?

have you tried the 9 short? Some brands have it available for the vertically challenged like my kids.

I've been told by people who have pudgy daughters that Land's End has the best pants for expanding waists. They have elastic in some pants and in others there is a little elastic strip on buttons.

After 7X comes size 8. My son is 5 1/2 and he wears some 7x but I now buy 8s. The boy sizes go from 4-7 then 8-20. Be careful on not only what brand but the style. Some are a lot bigger, especially after being washed they can stretch. Most of these are adjustable waist too so that does help. Try JC Penney or Sears they usually have what you need or Walmart. Hope this helps.

I would say to get Husky. I know at Wal-mart they have that size. I had to do the same thing with my ex husbands 7 year-old.

R., I've got 4 boys, so we have been thru a lot of pants. Don't stick with one brand, one store. Take a Sat. and make a "fun" day of shopping. He will probably hate it, but make the best of it. You'll be surprised at the difference from store to store. And thank goodness warm weather is coming and you can now go to more shorts and less pants. When you find a suitable brand and size, don't overbuy, he'll probably hit a growing stage and outgrow them before he gets your money's worth out of them.

Hi R.,
Try an 8 husky--they're made a little fuller all around. You probably will have better luck ordering them rather than trying to find them in the stores. I know Penney's is usually good about having those specialty sizes in their catalogues, and you might be able to buy them in Sears still.

We have the same problem too. Like the other replies, I also bought the 8 husky for my son after he grew out of the 7X. I shop at Old Navy online most of the time because the store is usually picked over in the husky sizes. The thing I like about Old Navy.com is they carry shirts in husky too. They are just a little bit bigger so you don't have to move up a size and end up with a really long shirt. Khols(sp?) also carries husky sizes. I found jeans that were short there too which was a plus. Good luck!

I see that several people have suggested what I was going to suggest.

Old Navy has jeans with an adjustable waist, as does Land's End. I was pleased with both of these brands. I also bought a lot of husky sizes. Arizona Jean Company (JCPenney) and the Sears brand seemed to work well for both of my boys. At Sears I could buy them in waist sizes in the husky.

Both of my older boys had this exact same problem. It is a pain until their legs grow! :) Good Luck!

I have the same problem with my boy...He is only 4 but he is bigger around the middle. I have had great luck with "The Childrens Place" online...They have husky boys jeans, and they fit wonderful! Their jeans are all under $15.00. It is so worth it to check it out!

My son refused to wear the elastic jeans (they were baby jeans) -- but we had good luck with the husky sizes. We found them at JC Penney's and Sears, and if I remember correctly, Old Navy. Be careful how you talk about this, he thought he was "fat" for a long time. He wasn't ... he just had short legs! Now, at 16, he's trying to gain weight! Go figure!

HI, I had that problem when my oldest was younger (now 13), but we now get jeans and cargos with the elastic straps on the inside that are adjustable. You can get them from Gap, Old Navy, Wal-Mart...They have been a great help. My other 3 doys need these too because they have small waists and hips. Hope this will help. C.

My son is 7 and also has, what we call, a bit of a "gut" :) The best solution we have found are the jeans from the Children's Place. They have an adjustable waist band in them that allows you to buy them in 7 husky but tighten the band to where they fit....best find EVER! Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

I do know exacly what you mean about looking for elastic waist and I have the best luck finding cloths at Target for I would say for chubby kids at reasonable prices. I have tried other places but more comfort cloths for them there .Good luck.

Have you looked for husky sizes? My kids ran the gamet from husky to slim. The lenght on the huskys are just the same as the regulars, but the waist is bigger.

I have a daughter who just did no like the feel of jeans that did not have stretch to them for a long time. We found that Talbot's kids has jeans with elastic all the way up to size 16. They go on sale periodically and we would stock up then, buying several pair for her.

I also see boys husky jeans in the store. I'm not sure at what size those start.

My son has the same problem. I have found that Bugle Boy brand runs a little shorter than some. If that won't work, maybe your son can get by with warm up pants, or sweats for a few more weeks and then he'll be in shorts for the summer. By next fall maybe he'll grow into the next size.

My son's weight changes with some of the meds he takes. I think the magic word is "Husky" usually those are bigger waisted without all the extra length.

Some of the jeans at walmart have these bands built into the inner waistline with about eight button holes on the inside that you can use to cinch the waist, you just pull in as much as you need on either side and button into place. My son wears a twelve and his jeans have them.

Good luck. I have a tall lanky girl who wears a 6 waist with a 7 length so jeans are always too baggy or a little too short!

R.,
Wal-Mart carries jeans that may not have an elastic waist, but inside the waistline is an elastic band (it's red, so it's easy to see) with button holes in it, and red buttons. You simply pull the red elastic as snug as you need on each side, and button it to the red buttons.
I know your frustration - I had that issue with my first son, but my 2nd son is the opposite, so I just let the elastic out more.
Hope this helps.

have you tried 8 husky? I have two boys one is 9 and the other is 15 my oldest son had that same problem for a little while we tried the husky jeans and they worked out great for us. if you get them at old navy, the gap, or levi stores they have the inside elastic in those jeans that seems to be a big help with my younger son. we told our oldest son that the husky jeans were just cut of jeans.
