I am starting a new job in two weeks. My problem is that we have been trying to conceive for a while and we had decided to start fertility meds in July. That was the date we decided on before I got the new job. Should I put it off, due to my new job or should we go ahead with the plan? How do I tell a new employer about this or should I just wait till I'm pg?
I would go ahead with the new job (babies are expensive, and you could save the money you get from working). Don't tell the new employer about this, just wait until you're sure that your pregnant to let your boss know.
If you are planning on using insurance from your new job to pay for the pregnancy, check on the terms of your insurance before you get pregnant. Some insurance companies have a waiting period and if you get pregnant (or have some other kind of "illness") during your waiting period they won't cover it. However, if insurance is not an issue don't let starting a new job prevent you from trying to get pregnant. I started a new job when I was 7 months pregnant with my son. It will always be easy to find reasons why it is the wrong time to have a baby and the future is uncertain. My husband and I thought we had it all planned out and now we have to move to Alaska 8 weeks before my due date with baby 2! So take the moment for what it is a start a family if that is what is right for you. Don't let outside factors determine that for you. However, I would wait to tell your boss until you are good and pregnant. I would wait until you are out of you 1st trimester to let him/her know.And make sure when you are ready to spread the word at work that you tell your boss first so he/she doesn't hear about it by word of mouth. They will appreciate you being upfront with them and your professionalism.
Family always comes before work. If you are seriously ready for a baby, which it sounds like you are, then go for it. When I got pregnant I did have a job, and my boss was always trying to get me to lift heavy boxes, so I quit.
do NOT tell your employer, discrimination based on family, or family planning happens all too often. aim to get pregnant 4 months in on the job or more, so that you guarantee your right to federal family leave for the birth. good luck.
I'm going through the same sort of thing in that I've decided to go back to work part-time but I also want to have another baby. I wasn't sure what i should do until I read your post. I thought of course she shouldn't tell them about her family planning or change her plans. Then I realized that I need to follow my own advice. Thanks for posting this question.
The only thing with that is if you are needing insurance then I'd wait but if not then it's no ones business if you are trying to get PG or not :)
Let me tell you putting off a family is the hardest thing to do if this is what you guys are truly wanting. Jobs are a dime a dozen. I would go ahead with your previous plans and when and if you are blessed pg then take the necessary steps. It will all work out. They won't be able to fire you just because your prego.
