Vitamins & Breastfeeding

While I nursed my oldest son I took prenatal vitamins, which my dr. prescribed for the entire time I breastfed. Now with my 2nd son, my dr. recommends just taking over the counter vitamins.
Anyone have any suggestions on the brand? Would any old multi vitamin do the trick?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My midwife and doctor told me to continue my pre-natals and I also took DHA - so that's what I'm doing. Why did they recommend you stop prenatals? I always took the Target brand prenatals, though, my doctor said that they were as good as the prescribed ones.

i am going to assume that vitamins whle breastfeeding are similar to vitamins while pregnant - i actually couldn't take any prenatal vitamins and had to take over the counter ones - and actually the ones i took (as suggested by my midwife and ob) were centrum chewables for kids!! which i am thinking would be great for anyone breastfeeding!! (they are orange flavored)

while you're breastfeeding try to stay away from anything artificial .. color or flavor. I got my vitamins from a health food store, they were all natural. Nature's Plus is the brand. They also make a chewable kids vitamin. Remember the breast is NOT a filter .. but a funnel. So, the best thing is for you to eat healthy and then your milk will be too.

Hello,
I give my 9 month old son Shaklee vitamins. I have been taking them all my life and will only give the best. Go to www.shaklee.com if you are interested in finding out more. All the products are clinically tested in a laboratory and some even have patents. Let me know if you have questions. The vitamin industry is not regulated and therefore, a multi-vitamin you get off the shelf could say it has biotin for example in it, when it may not. Biotin is very important and also expensive to incorporate so many companies do not include it. I am a nutritionist and a registered nurse. Anything I can do to pass on my wonderful discovery with Shaklee I love to do. Also, breastfeeding is the best thing you can do for your baby. I am breast feeding my son of 9 months old:) Hope this helps.

I have a great suggestion! Melaleuca's Prenatal Vitality Pack! They have all the right nutrients for expecting and nursing moms! They even have Omega 3 which is for baby's brain and vision development! Let me know if you want information on them.
