I have a precious dog that is 7years old. she has not been acting "normal" the past few months; thought it was the cold now the heat etc... finally i looked in her mouth and her teeth look awful. I think she needs alot of them removed. My vet is good but wow she is so expensive. I want her to have great care but does anybody have a vet that is more reasonable in their price?? thank you

I agree with taking your pet to Dr. Hickman at Animal Medical Center! He has been our vet for 16 years & 7 pets. It's my understanding (comparing with friends and family) that AMC tends to be a bit less expensive than most other clinics, and most importantly AMC does it right the first time, without the many follow ups due to preventable complications.

Good luck, P.!

I can't help you regarding a vet, but I can help you with the aftermath.

We had our dog's teeth cleaned (to the expensive tune of $150) and I have learned since then to scape the tarter off his teeth. I use a veterinarian tooth scraper (got it from my Dad - he was trained as a vet) and use bacon grease to reward my dog for cooperating and being still. He looks forward to it.

I should brush his teeth every day, but don't seem to have the time. About every other week I pull out the scraper and the bacon grease and we have a little love session on the floor in the kitchen. He hates the dog tooth paste. My goal this spring is to start brushing his teeth every day!

good luck!

I am not sure if they will be in your price range...but I have been taking my animals to the animal medical center in McKinney. Its located off of Jordan and Virginia Pkwy. The doctor's name is Dr. Hickman. They are all so wonderful there. To walk through the door, it is kind of steep...it is 25 to walk through the door. The staff are all so caring. When my dog had to be put down, they were great with all of that. They let my son go in there and be with her before and after. I recommend them to all of my friends. Good Luck!
