Undescended Testicle? - Albuquerque,NM

My son has one testicle that to this day still likes to hide. The doctors decided a wait and see approach, and by the time he was 4 it was 90% down. Obviously there are different scenarios and degrees of problems, but maybe ask the doctor what the odds are that it may drop on its own, or get a second opinion that will make yourself more comfortable with the decision. Also, I know an adult who had the surgery when he was little and he is just fine. Getting it taken care of when he is young is better than when he will remember it. I do have friend who's son had this very problem. She too is into alt. med. However, she could not find another way to fix this one. Her son did have the surgery, and did very well with it. There were a few bumps on the short recovery road. He wanted to do more than she could allow him to do right after. She said the worst part for them both was That he couldn't just run and play for a few days. Your son should be fine. Best of luck to you and your Son.

Hi.. Same situation with my son - our Dr. just pointed it out and said no cause for concern at all, that it will probably descend on it's own before puberty. Sure enough it did. I think that often times others will make too big a deal of out things and in our "humanness" we try to fix things that aren't really broken!

My husband had this surgery done when he was a kid. It was fairly minor, and he hasn't had any repercussions as an adult.

One thing to ask about, if there is anything else linked to this. My husband's was related to a genetic condition he has (nothing major) that is passed down the male line. Sometimes there is a link, but most of the time it's just something that happens. :)

Hi M.. My now 6 year old son had that when he was a baby and by 3 it worked itself out. I personally am not into the cutting on kids thing so I would simply ask another peds opinion. Our doctor was not worried a bit and said its very common these days. Take care and good luck.

I babysat (@ kindercare) a 1 year old who had the surgery done about 4 years ago and the doc brought it down, kid seemed fine. He was a little sore down there (obviously), we had to clean him with wet rags, not wipes and never 'wipe' the area, only drizzle water on him. And we couldn't carry him on our hip for a while, but he healed quickly. Best of luck, ask around for a second and third oppinion. I know I would if it was my son. I've heard that there's no real reason to do the surgery, but it wasn't from a medical professional.
