I am going to be planning our summer vacation and I need to book some hotel rooms for during our road trip. I have used priceline before for a car rental, and it worked out well, but I was wondering what other sites you'd recommend (expedia, hotels.com, etc.)? I'm not sure of the advantages or disadvantages of each of these....If you can tell me which you like and why, I'd really appreciate it!

What can I do next?

I use these as guides. Then I will call the hotel directly and see what their
price is with AAA discount. It always comes out the same maybe a few
dollars less. Priceline usually works well, but occasionally you get a dive.
I rather be safe than sorry. Usually expedia, hotels.com require payment
up front and I think non-refundable. When booking with a hotel directly,
you can cancel usually up to 4PM that day (or the day before, not sure).

I love hotwire.com for car rentals; have used that site on five different occasions and they have the best prices around. For me, ultimately a rental car is a rental car ... unlike a hotel.

My mom is a priceline addict for hotel rooms and she gets them SO cheap by bidding on a room. If you don't need a specific hotel and you're looking for rooms in bigger cities this is the way to go. Stick to 3 1/2 and 4 star hotels and bid whatever you think you can afford to pay. We ALWAYS come out ahead. We got a beautiful hotel in downtown LA (4 star) for $65/night for our last trip; the conference hotel a block away wanted $180/night!

Travelzoo and Tripadvisor, plus I'm get emails with specials and deals from several air travel, hotel and car rental loyalty programs.

I have 4 kids so I usually need a suite or hotel room that can accomodate a rollaway. Plus, they eat alot so getting a room that includes free breakfast saves us money. Because of this, I do alot of research and choose a particular hotel for these amenities. I'm a little jealous of some of the amazing deals other people get on priceline, but can't use it for my family.

I've been using hotels.com. After you book 10 nights, you get a free night at a hotel that is in the same prices range as the other 10. The site also asks members to review the hotel after they visit. I've found the reviews to be helpful.

Check out this site. You can earn cash back on your traveling. I did the search for travel for you under the partner stores tab but if you go under the travel tab you will save money and there are coupon codes for you. This is powered by travelocity but you will get a better deal going through this link.
Hope you have a safe and fun vacation

My parents travel a lot & swear by hotels.com. They'll fly from NJ to FL & not book a room until they're in the airport in Orlando & have never had a problem finding a beautiful & affordable room to stay in.
