Third Pregnancy. Will I Make It in Time....

Hello :) I am expecting my third child & after two boys, I am pregnant with a girl :) I have been told by quite a few people that with this being my third child, I won't make it in time to get an epidural. Is this true that anyone knows of or has experience with? I had an epidural with both of my boys & LOVED it and I would really really like it again but I just keep hearing that the third pregnancy goes really quick when it comes to delivery. Any advice would be helpful :)

What can I do next?

there is no way that anyone can answer this... unless your first and second labors were VERY short, you're prob just fine, but again, no one really knows until the time comes - just enjoy your pregnancy and deal with the rest when it gets here :)

Well I didn't make it in time with my second,I pushed 5 minutes after I arrived. I'm pregnant now and am just hoping to get to the hospital and not have him in the car.

Don't worry though, your body kind of takes over and the pain is not what you concentrate on. It's faster without an epidural too.

I would go based on how your two previous ones were.

If they were with in an hour... then yes you have a chance of not getting there in time, depending with how far you have to drive.

Otherwise you should be ok, just have everything in the car and ready to just walk out the door when it's time.

As a M. who had 3 natural births ( they came to fast to get anything! one they didn't even get an IV put in yet) even if you can't have it, everything will be ok and you will be able to do it! :)

Depends on how you labor... How long were you previous deliveries? I labored for two hours with my first, and one hour with my second. I worry that ly third may just fly out hahaha!

It depends on your history--if you have had fast labors, then maybe yes. Baby girls are often at least 1/2 pound heavier than boys, so maybe not. Sounds like wishful thinking. If the labor is really fast, then you won't need an epidural--its purpose is to make you comfortable during the laboring process.

After having two girls with an avergae of 6 hour labors, my third was a boy and came in "precipitous" fashion in 1.25 hours from me waking up (feeling like I had to poop) to delivering him in the hospital lobby. However, I feel that it had more to do with my body (pretty efficient at labor and delivery) and the fact that this was a boy and he powered right out. While the dramatic story is interesting (thank goodness my M. was is a nurse and happened to be on night shift at the time so she met us at the hopital door and took our girls from the car!), at the time I felt a total loss of control over my body and was unprepared. So my advice is to be prepared and have a birth plan A and a birth plan B. Good luck! And congrats!

I had an epidural with all 3 of my deliveries (all Non C-sections). Didn't have any problems with getting one. Not sure why people would tell you that you wouldn't have enough time unless you live far away from the hospital that you are delivering at (like 2 hrs away). Good Luck!

actually, my first was the fastest, I had to be induced with number 3 and number 4, and both were terribly long labors, but number 5 was a lot faster than number 2.

Translation, it all depends and there is no way to know for sure.

You never know. Each person's body is different. I never even went into labor with ANY of my pregnancies. My twins were born via scheduled c-section, and my daughter's birth was also scheduled. So, I guess I've kinda defied the odds that way. Just enjoy the pregnancy and your little girl!

Every pregnant is different. Three out of four my pregnancies were by appt to induce. Number three child was the only one I did not make an appt for and she came on her own. She is also my only girl.

Who knows-I had my last child (#6) in less than one hour! The others took a little longer.

I did have a much different & faster labor the third time. With my first two, my water broke and when I got to the hospital, I was barely dilated. With the third, my labor came on hard and strong in the middle of the night. By the time I got to the hospital, I was 6 cm. I had to wait for an over an hour for the anesthesiologist to come, and by then I was 7cm. I did receive the epidural and was pushing less than two hours later. The OB broke my water right before it was time to push. Good luck to you!

CONGRATS on getting your baby girl!!! :) i have two boys, and now have a baby girl as well - she is 19months now and i just adore her - so nice to have another girl in the house, and the boys just adore her as well :) be prepared for her to love playing with balls though ... mine carries her balls around in her purse ...

how fast she comes will probably depend on how quick your other two births were - i ended up having a c-section with mine - she refused to turn head down.

congrats again! sending hugs!
