Telling Out of Town Family About Pregancy #2 - Fort Worth,TX

My husband and I are actively working on getting preggo with #2 and both of our families know it. While the majority of them live near, one of my sisters lives about 7 hours away, so telling her face to face isn't possible but I really want to find a unique idea for when we are pregnant. Any suggestions? She is super creative and very sweet, so I want to do something special. I would also like to be able to do the same for my other sister that does live locally.

TIA!
M.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great suggestions! DH and I finally agreed on the idea of getting a nice engraveable key-chain for my sisters, reading "To Our Aunt (name) We Love You" once we are actually pregnant.

Since they only have the one niece at the moment, thought it would be a nice way of telling them, plus they have a memento to keep. :)

We are also working toward baby #2 and I once heard an idea once that sounded fun to us that I don't see on here. The suggestion was to get fill-in-the-blank birthday cards with the due date as the birthday. You could also enter the the name and gender, too, depending on when you send it. I thought that was a fun way to announce the "birthday" party.

What about putting baby #1 in an "I'm the Big Sister/Brother" T-Shirt and sending the aunties a pic? This is how we "announced" our pregnancy #2 to our family at a gathering. Needless to say it took some people a minute...my FIL kept saying, "I don't get it. She's not a big sister."

You could even send it electronically in a Picasa album. Just make the Big Sister/Borther one the very last pic.

Are you sure that you're pregnant? or are you just working on it?
I like all of the suggestions...
I would send them both a gift wrapped item, something from below, or your own choice, and have a note that says, don't open until 9:00am on 3/1/2010.... that way they both find out at the same time!

Other options of things to send:
An invitation to the birth of the baby....
A copy of your baby registry...

We video taped my son. He was only two so we had to splice it all together to make it work(because we hadn't explained to him yet and wanted to wait until things were more obvious to him)...but basically I was asking him some questions about his body (where are your eyes, etc,) and letting him answer. We ended with me asking him what was on his tummy and he smiled and raised his shirt and said a "belly button". Then I said what's in mommy's tummy...and his response of "a baby" was the part we had to coax him to say and edit around. We emailed it to everyone....my in laws who were in town and my family who is out of town. That way everyone heard at once and all were surprised.

Have flowers delivered to both of them with a card telling them-maybe put a poem on it that leaves them guessing with the only conclusion is your prego- Roses are red violets are blue do you think we'll need pink or blue? OR maybe have a diaper delivery company in on the prank and show up at their door to solicit diaper service. When they say they don't need diapers the guy could say oh that must be your sister M. My bad! :)

sending a boquet of flowers is a an amazing way of tellign them. The best is to wait till your know the sex of the child and send a note saying "Its a boy/girl" I did that to both my inlaws and my parents. They just freaked out and were so overjoyed and loved the flowers very much. It was a nice way of letting my sibling who are still minors at the time know one by one also with extended family. They placed the flowers on the dinner table and it became a conversation piece fo each visitor and a nice reminder everyday of their new joy.

we waited until we could hear the heartbeat. i recorded it on my phone and then sent it in a message and waited for people to respond. i was flooded with calls and text messages. i had to call my mom after 5 hours and ask if she heard it. she said she had but she didn't know what it was. i said listen again and listen carefully so she called me back and said "is it yours" and i told her i dont just steal heartbeats of random babies! Everyone was very excited

when we told the grandmas, we got "worlds best grandma" frames with a note inside saying "picture to come Jan 2007". You could do the same with aunt ones.

A friend of mine had a pic taken of her daughter playing with blocks that spelled out "big sister", which could be something fun to put in that sort of frame to send.

Send her some cinamon buns and attach a note with something about a 'bun in the oven'. You could also set your table for 4 and send her a picture. We are working on getting pregnant with #3.....I have a necklace that has both of my kids' names on a tag.....when I announce my next pregnancy, I'm going to post a picture of it and say, "This necklace is missing a tag"....or something like that. You could find something like that. Good luck! Fingers crossed for both of us!! :)

Well, we were away from all family for about 18years+ and the way we told our families was by sending them flowers and telling THEM "Congrats- you're going to be grandparents, aunt, uncle, etc." My Mom started getting very excited whenever anyone sent her flowers!
It was a little expensive for us as we have 5 children now! :)
Hope this helps-
