Teething?!? Holy Cow!

My sweet 15 week-old is drooling all over my hubby and I and she is crying more than usual - at times she is inconsolable. We think she may be teething, even though it seems a bit early as she was 7 weeks premature. Any suggestions on how to make her feel better?

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your stories and guidance. My nurse practitioner said she saw a little swelling, indicating the imminent teeth. I am so grateful her crying jags have a non-scary explanation. I have tried a cool washcloth, and will try freezing it. The colored plastic rings seem a bit too hard for her right now - she will gum them a bit and then cry. The puffy, fluid filled teethers do not do anything, and seem the wrong size for her mouth. Perhaps they will come in handy when she's older.

Again, thank you, and have a nice weekend.

There are teething tablets called Hyland's that you can find at Meijer or Walgreen's that are homeopathic. Also, freeze a wet washcloth and let her "chew" on it or try an ice cube in one of these: http://www.babysafefeeder.com/ (I think Walmart and other stores have something similar in their baby sections now as well.)

It does seem very early for teething, but it's not unheard of. I've heard that it's rare but some babies are actually born with teeth!! Take her to the ped if you think there might be something else going on. Trust your instincts!!

My daughter did this as well around 12 weeks. Our doctor recommended tylenol. He has told us not to use orajel. I would check with your pediatrician. A lot happens before the teeth actually come through the gums. We didn't actually see a tooth until after our daughter was 5 months old.

Good Luck.

I would use homeopathic infant teething drops or gripe water. Stay away from the tylenol at this stage...she's just too young. Of course, you should check with your doctor to make sure that there is nothing else going on...and that giving her the drops or gripe water would be ok.

I would also suggest to do the massage, as well. When babies drool a lot, they can swallow a lot of air...which can cause an upset tummy...and more crying. Infant massage helps relax them. If they have any abdominal discomfort from air bubbles, the massage can help them pass that.

My daughter started drooling at less than 4 monhs, but she got her first tooth when she was 9 months.

My doc said the teeth is hardenining inside, and they would drool. When the tooth will come u never know.

Try the orajel or pain relievers.

All the best.

Tylenol if doc says ok, massage her gum with your finger, and those cool (not frozen) chewy things. Likely the bottom 2 front teeth. Poor little girl. It'll be over soon. Until the next ones come in!
