My son has the same thing, and yes, she has most likely worn her teeth down off each other. I noticed a chip in my son's tooth when he was 2, and took him to the dentist. Like your daughter, there had been no injury or trauma that I was aware of. The dentist said that it was from his teeth wearing against each other (and pointed out a much smaller indentation on the bottom). I was surprised because it seemed to come on suddenly and the 'chip' seemed relatively large (to my eyes -- the doctor was hesitant to call it a chip!). She said it had probably been wearing away for sometime, but maybe a largish piece broke off recently (just during eating) which is why I noticed it.

She said we didn't need to do anything about it, but she would monitor his teeth during his regular check-ups. My son has a slight overbite from sucking his thumb when he was younger, so that could be why his teeth are wearing away (my older son's teeth have not done that). He's now 3, and that's the only largish chip missing, but I see some signs of wear on other teeth, but nothing that concerns the dentist.

So, yes, take her in to the dentist, but its probably not an emergency.

Sure, it's possible for her to chip her teeth. Teeth will move out of the way for other teeth, especially if one is pushing down on the other constantly. My 16 month old is still tasting rocks :P Sounds like a trip to the dentist is in order :)

I think you need to find a local pediatric dentist to do some X-rays to make sure her tooth enamel is not damaged. She is old enough to have been going to one so you may already have one, call them. Let them check it out for sure. You don't want those teeth to have to be ground down and capped until they fall out.

Yes, it's possible that they wear each other down, or she may have fallen and bit them together hard enough to chip them.
My DD hit the bathtub when she was about a year old and chipped off a bit of her front tooth. My dentist said that even though they could put her through an Xray and all the he didn't recommend it and we should just keep dn eye on it. He doesn't recommend major work on baby teeth unless it is absolutely necessary.
I'd say if you are worried let a dentist look at it, but don't necessarily expect them to do anything about it.

BTW DD is now almost five, the chip is barely noticeable and she has added a few other minor chips on other teeth (rough and tumble). Other than those her teeth are in perfect condition...and we never needed to do anything about it.

I'd go to a dentist--the sooner the better. You'd hate for her to fracture a tooth and have it progress into something worse (requiring a scary procedure). My daughter fractured her front tooth just from toddler habits of putting everything in her mouth and chewing on it. We're going back to the dentist every 6 months for regular cleanings and to keep an eye on it.
