Taking Care of My Face!

I have decided to commit to start taking care of my face. I have sun damage and really bad frown lines--I always look mad or frustrated! I eat healthily, take vitamins, and drink a lot of water already. I purchased a good cleanser, deep wrinkle treatment "lotion", and a daily moisturizer with sunscreen, and have vowed to wash my naked (no make-up) face every night and use the products. Here is my question: if I go to bed with this clean moisturized face, must I wash it again the next morning and re-apply the products? How dirty can my face get from sleeping? Can I just re-apply the moisurizers? You're probably thinking, what's the big deal with washing your face again in the morning? I know it sounds dumb, but I just really do not enjoy washing my face and would like to skip it in the morning if it's not necessary. Seems like all I would be washing off is the product I put on the night before.

What do you think?

What can I do next?

Everyone's skin is different, but washing in the a.m. is usually a good thing.

For sun damage you should try a few months of Retin A. You will be flaky, but if you use it minimally, it shouldn't be too bad.

I still wash my face in the morning because it's oily by then and oilier night products and wrinkle-reducing products (generally glycolic) should come off during the day and sunscreen applied on a clean face.

You need to figure out what your skin requires. At night I remove my makeup and then wash my face in lukewarm water. Finally I apply my moisturizer and eye cream. In the morning I just apply my SPF daily moisturizer. My husband on the other hand has very oily skin and he has to wash again in the morning before applying his SPF lotion. Generally it is not recommended you wash your face twice a day since that will often make problems worse (overdrying which keeps the cycle of acne going, for instance).

It depends what kind of skin you have but twice a day is still a good idea.

If you have oily skin, you should wash your face twice a day for sure.

If you have dry skin, you can get away with just applying more mositurizer, however, you should also be using something to exfolliate.

Washing your face in the morning can help your face feel refreshed and remove the crust from your eyes or the dried up drool from your cheeks.

Depending on the type of skin you have, you may be able to get away with just splashing water on your face and keeping it moving.

I prefer natural products which can soak into my skin over products containing mineral oils which only sit on top of the skin. I often check out this website about healthy beauty and get great tips and companies to buy products from which really make a difference.

While you are taking care of your face don't forget your neckline down into the breast region. It all matters. Good for you taking better care of yourself.

You don't want to overwash your face, it will just dry it out and the your skin will over-compensate and become oily. One thing that has really helped the skin on my face is wearing a good face sun-screen on it EVERYDAY! (At least 35 or so). Even if it is cloudy or you are not going outside or whatever, it really helps you skin block a lot of bad stuff. Sorry I dont have much more, hope that helps!

I wouldn't go through a deep cleansing routine more than once a day. That's alot of chemicals. If you do that at night, then just use water and light soap in the morning, or vice versa.

But you really don't need all those cleansers. Get a loofa made for the face and a good scrub w/good facial soap can give you an awesome glow w/o any chemicals.

I wash my face at night (with Noxema) but in the morning, I just take a very warm washcloth and hold it on my face for a few seconds. I do that a couple times then I apply a light moisturizer. I don't apply any moisturizer at night because I use the Noxema that has moisturizer.

I have oily skin. Since I stopped using product to wash my face in the morning, my face is a lot less oily. It actually does not look oily until late evening.

I wash my face at night so in the morning I just use a wet wipe to wake my face up a bit:) It's just easier than doing the whole wash rag thing.

LOL! I understand...Since I take a shower every morning my face gets washed 2X night before and the next morning. Since I tend to have oily skin I have to wash my face more frequently. If you are on the dryer side then I wouldn't think you have to. However, you always want to stay moisturized and use one with some sun block protection :)

Jessica,

Since you have committed to taking care of your face, you are going to get the best results by doing your routine morning and night. It's not a matter of your face getting dirty...it's getting good ingredients on and in your skin again in the morning and protecting it from the environment. Also, a night creme should be used in the evening vs a day creme because they have two different purposes. I highly recommend adding an eye creme as well. I market products that help people have softer, smoother, younger looking skin. If you like, check them out at www.votrevu.com/sallybriar and let me know if you have any questions. Also, here's a recent blog posting you may want to read: http://www.whomyouknow.com/2011/10/start-your-day-off-rig.... Hope this helps.

I think I can answer this. The most important repeat is moisturizer all the time. If you cleaned it the night before does it collect dust through the night? I think not. So just moisturize all the time. Especially around the lines. And I recently read something somewhere that you do not necessarily have to have a separate eye moisturizer, that the same one used on your face can work (careful though-watch the eyes)_I have been doing this for over twenty five years and seriously the only wrinkles I have are on my eyelids and those go away midday.
