Hi other Mamas,

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and my tail bone has been killing me. Did any of you have this problem and if so, do you recommend anything? Pregnancy massage, chiropractic care? It's pretty painful and I can't really imagine 18 more weeks! Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

I have had two babies, and didn't have much lower back or butt pain during my pregnancies. My doctor and doula said it was because I stay so physically active teaching group fitness classes while pregnant. BUT... during delivery was another story! I had natural births both times, and I could FEEL my tailbone and pelvis moving open. I vividly remember asking why my tailbone was hurting so bad while I was in labor. My doula said "What you're feeling is what most women start feeling earlier in pregnnacy as the baby gets head down and puts pressure on the hips. You were just in such good shape your muscles supported that baby up higher and cradled it better. But now that it's time for your baby to be born and come out, there's no avoiding it. Your tailbone has to move back to make room for the baby's head to come out." Still you may want to visit a chiropractor, just to make sure something isn't out of place. I also highly recommend prenatal massage! It's awesome!

I had severe 'tail bone pain' during delivery and even problems between pregnancies and after the second. It turned out to be caused by pelvic floor spasms. I got help from a physical therapist.

Oh I feel your pain! I had horrible tailbone pain when I was pregnant. I waited till 30 weeks before going to a chiropractor. It was amazing and I wish I had gone much sooner. It relieved me of that pain for the rest of the time!!!
