Hi Mom's,
In my quest to find swimming lessons I was wondering if any of you have used Lonestar Swim School (in Coppell). I am looking for something remotely close to my home this year (if possible) and wondering if anyone in Coppell has used them.
As an alternative, I have noticed that the recreation center near us offers classes, but the classes are from M-Th everyday and I have an almost 2 year old - and worried going every day for two weeks will either wear me or him out? Have any of you tried doing this -- did the kids enjoy the "immersion" of an everyday activity like that?
Just curious what your feedback is on this one? And what has worked for other mom's with similar situation.
Thanks for your time,
K.

Actually I think it is a better idea for that age to go for the full 2 weeks. My girls are older and they go once a week, but they havea a better memory than a 2 year old. It could take him time to feel safe and secure, so the momentum of going almost everyday should help with that alot. Kids who love the water dont always take well to being in a big pool with a stranger, although at 2, do you still have to get in the pool with him?? Either way, I think that the rec center is a great way to go, and probably not as expensive. It wont make him a great swimmer, but more comfortable with it before the summer starts. Good luck with your decision, and have a great Easter. ~A.~

I don't know anything about that school, but my 6year olds (then 5) did swim lessons last summer at our local community college, and it was m-th for 2 weeks, about 45 min a lesson. It was a toddler class. I was worn out, but they were ok.
I don't know where your 2 year old is swim-wise, but alot of the little kids in the class were very afraid, and part of the class was putting them in the pool and getting them to particpate even though they would cry at times. By the end of the two weeks all the kids that would scream and hold onto their mom's legs at first were ready to get in the pool and have fun. My point is the consistency of four days a week for two weeks is imporatnt to get over that terror hurdle. Don't knw that would have happened for those kids going only once a week. My in-laws have a pool and live a mile from us so we didn't have that problem, we were going for the structured activity. BUT, i will say i was so over it by the end of it all, so it did wear me out.

Hi K.,

Jack and I did a swim class last summer that was 2 weeks long, 30 minutes everyday. I think that is a great way to do lessons for young kids.

Good luck! Have fun swimming! :)

Can't speak highly enough about Emler Swimming. (they have a website) They have locations around the metroplex. My daughter has been going since she was six months old. At three is is a competent swimmer and loves it.

Lonestar is AWESOME! My then 2-1/2 year old daughter was swimming within one week. It's a family business and they are very organized, gentle, loving, age appropriate. I can't say enough good things about them. And it's amazingly affordable. You might even sign up for two of the two-week 1/2 hour sessions. You'll be pleased, I'm sure! We are signed up to go again this summer.
