I am wondering if anyone can recommend a great swimming instructor? I am looking for swimming lessons for my 1 1/2 year old. Anything in the west Lake Worth, Wellington, Boynton Beach area good be fantastic. Any advice on lessons would also be helpful. I am reluctant to watch someone dunk my child underwater..

What can I do next?

Hi E.. YES..I can recommend AWESOME lessons. The method is called ISR - Infant swim resource. Check out their website, www.infantswim.com They do amazing things. My daughter was about 20 months when we went. The lessons are for 6 weeks, 5 days a week, 10 minutes a day. It is a sacrifice to go every day, but you get in the routine, and it is very much worth it. Your child will not be finished with the lesson until they can swim to the steps, swim and hold on to the wall, swim fully clothed, and most importantly, turn over to float when they need to catch their breath and rest. Basically, if your child were to fall in a pool, they would know how to save themselves. My daughter can completely float face up in the center of the pool, with no one even near her..for as long as she has to. The lessons are offered in various places. We took them with Miss Deby at the Wellington Aquatic center on Forest Hill, just west of the mall. She is an AWESOME teacher..very gentle with the children. I have a friend who took the same lessons at a different location, and she did not like the teacher. they offer morning and afternoon lessons. You can contact Deby at ###-###-#### or ____@____.com . I am telling you, I spent 6 months going to a mommy and me type swim class...and it was very ineffective. It was fun, but in 6 months my daughter could still not float..and in 2 weeks she could float with Deby. The classes are very expensive, so be prepared..but it is really worth it. If you only did a once a week, ongoing program, you would probably pay more over time. As far as your role in the lessons...you just kind of have to let go. It is only 10 minutes. The best thing you can do is stay serene. If you show fear, or even too much babying, that will only add to your little ones unease. Deby is a very nurturing person. Good luck!

Kimberly Firth with Make a Splash (her DBA). Her number is ###-###-####.

As a former swim instructor and lifeguard (both my husband and myself), our children would not listen to us and knew our weak spots. Mrs. Kim was the answer and my daughter was swimming 25 yards by 3.5 years. My son is now 15 months old and is also doing a great job. Mrs. Kim teaches safety/survival skills as well as technique. No "dunking" necessary.

Good luck!

I've heard that the YMCA in Boynton Beach offers swimming but I'm not sure of the ages...
