Summer Camp for Elementary Kids

There are tons of programs available through daycares, (Beary Best, Cambridge, Carpe Diem, etc.... A lot of country clubs have camps as well.. Our Country club has camps and the last I heard, you don't have to be a member to participate.

The schools usually have a "summer school" for about 6 weeks which has a lot of fun things to do.

That said..............For something to meet all of your criteria/rules, I would find a college student or nanny for the summer so you maintain the control and rules you have set in place.

Field Trips are fun... Will your child be opting out of them at school as well? If so, that is sad because each grade level goes on trips and it is sad to see the 1-3 children left behind with an assistant because the parents don't allow field trips.

If you take that route, please.... take your child on field trips yourself.. they are educational and fun!

To clarify on field trips - My son has some special needs that prohibit him from going on most field trips. He is in a mainstream Kindergarten and does well in the classroom without an aide or accomodations. During the school year I accompany his class on field trips so that he can participate (2 so far this school year) but I am not able to go on field trips with him 1-2 times per week during the summer due to my work schedule.

We had a nanny before he was school-age and that worked quite well. Due to this special needs he is now at a point where he needs the socialization with typical children, so that is why we are looking for a summer camp/program versus a nanny.

Try a local YMCA they have great summer camps and are usually rather inexpensive. My daughter went to one in Crowley. It was at her elementary school and they would take a field trip once a week. But they had to whole gym plus the playground outside and had several workers and lots of activities planned each day. I want to say it was $85/wk.

My daughter went to Beary Best in Frisco last Summer and we loved it.

They do field trips, but at the beginning of each month you get a calendar and pay for what you want them to do so you could skip the field trips.

You're always going to have some turnover, but they were pretty consistent for the Summer.

Cambridge Academy in Plano @ Coit/Hedgecoxe is also good. We went a few years ago so I can't remember how they do their field trips.

Pebblecreek montessori in allen is pretty good, flexible hours. Canyon Creek Country Club has really fun summer camps and you don't have to be a member, very flexible on days, times, activities and no field trips.

PSA (Plano Sports Authority) has a camp in the gym, no field trips but on fridays they have bounce houses and a few times they will have the Plano fire truck come or other things like that. They serve lunch, with about 4 or 5 options, play games all day, split the kids by age level, and have a quiet time in the afternoon where the kids can read or play games (board or card games). My boys went last summer, they had fun but my younger son (who was going into first grade at the time) has migraines and the noise was a bit much for him. They were great about letting him go sit with the counselors though and color to escape the noise.
