Successful Pregnancy After 3 Miscarriages?

I have been trying to conceive for almost two years now and just suffered a third miscarriage last week. Have any of you had this many miscarriages and gone on to have a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby? I'm trying to remain optimistic, but it's getting harder and harder to do so. Any positive experiences appreciated.

Hello. I sympathize. I had two miscarriages and no reason could be found for why. They were considered normal. (25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage). The good news is I conceived and carried to term two wonderful babies after the miscarriages. My daughter is 2 years and my son is 2 months. I also have two friends who suffered two miscarriages each, had issues with infertility, tried artificial insemination, and when she finally gave up, immediately got pregnant!

Have you been to a specialist? I haven't had any miscarriages but I couldn't get pregnant and I went to a fertility clinic and ended up having a beautiful baby girl through IVF. I do have a friend who had 8 miscarriages over 5 years and finally went to see a fertility dr and is now pregnant and due in Nov. It's worth a shot. With her they were able to tell her why she was miscarrying and adjust her hormones. Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

Hi R.,
While this didn't happen to me, I am 41 years old, and I was the baby born after 4 miscarriages. Good luck, I am sorry for your losses and hope that soon you will have the baby you've been dreaming of.

R.,

Have you gone through any genetic counseling to make sure that there isn't something going on much less something that could be resolved?

To answer your question though, YES!!

1) A cousin-in-law had a son, then 3 miscarriages I think it was, went to a high risk/fertility doctor and ended up with b/g twins!

2) My step SIL had 2 miscarriages, had a son, had several more miscarriages, then finally had her daughter.

3) A friend through a friend had a couple of miscarriages and lots of fertility issues just to have a son a few months ago!

4) I have a very good friend who has three boys now but sadly I can't tell you how many miscarriages she had in between.

I really think you need to explore genetic counseling though just to see what is going on and maybe it would solve whatever is happening. Have you also talked to your doctor about using a progesterone cream? I have heard of low levels not only making it hard to conceive but also causing miscarriages. I've heard it is suggested to use a progesterone cream for the first 9 weeks I think it is after getting pregnant but again, you would need to talk to your doctor or a homeopath because I believe the cream needs to be used a certain way and I don't know what that is. I know when you are NOT pregnant you are supposed to take a week off after 3 weeks but again, please talk to a doctor.

I wish you the best and hope we get news on here soon that you are successfully carrying your little bundle!

You didn't mention it in your post, but have you tried baby aspirin therapy? My best friend had two miscarriages and then was told to take a baby aspirin every day (I think that was the dose, definitely check) for the first one or two trimesters when she became pregnant for the third time and is now in her third trimester of a healthy pregnancy. Also, I'm pretty sure my MIL miscarried three times before having my husband. Good luck and keep us posted!

Talk to your doctor about being put on Lovenox (an injectible blood thinner) before/during your pregnancy. I have heard via message boards online that it has helped some women who have a history of miscarriages carry a pregnancy to full term and deliver health babies.

I take Lovenox before/during pregnancy for other reasons but have heard it helps with miscarriages.

We tried for 2 years before I even got pregant the first time, within the 3rd year I had 2 miscarriages. I defiantly know the kind of pain you are in. We had genitic testing done and found everything looked ok. Then I had lots of bloodwork done and found that I was not producing enough Progesterone witch helps with inplation of the embryo. By this time I was so stressed about everything that I had stopped ovulating. I started taking clomid witch helps ovulation and increases hormone levels and had sucesse the third month. I was teriffied the whole pregancy. But I now have a happy, heathly, very active almost 4 year old boy and used the same fertility treatment 2 years later and have an amazing 1 year old girl. I have lots of friends that have also had 1,2 or 3 miscarriages. I found that lots of people do not talk about it because it is so hard to talk about, you never know the right thing to say. I have been through it and have come out the other side so it is much easer to talk about it now. That said I will always wonder about the children that we lost. My advice, do whatever you can to figure out why this is happening, try, try,try to not stress, and keep trying. I wish you the best of luck!

You may have Thrombophilia (SP?) I have it, it is a genetic disorder where during pregnancy you blood clots too much & prevents the placenta from growing & damages it. It causes early miscarriages & is usually diagnosed for people with multiple miscarriages. They put you on Metformin to help supress some of the factors, baby aspirin & Lovenox (a blood thinner you inject when pregnant). I was able to save my son from miscarriage doing this. I don't know where you live, but I have a wonderful Dr. that diagnosed me after my 1st Miscarriage. It sounds to me like you may have this. Ask for a genetic test for Thrombophilia. If you would like more information, please respond to me - I've been through this.

Dear R.,
I am so sorry for your loss. The best advice I can give is if you believe in God, there is a plan...there is a soul out there for you to care for...it may come from your body or from someone elses, but there is a child that will call you "Mommy"...that being said you asked for an uplifting story, I have 2...one is me. I was gang raped at 18, first night in college...the doctors said there was so much damage etc...no kids in my future...I was destroyed...I was a virgin when this happened...6 yrs later I met my now husband and a year after we met...baby 1...we have 5!!!! The second story more relavent to your situation is my Aunt Meg...they tried to concieve for years, then they started an adoption...a month before it was final they concieved..they stop the adoption and she miscarried, then she lost 3 more...3 years later she called us and said...I think I'm having a baby...I'm 6 months along!!! she kept waiting for the bad to come and then 6 months into it freaked because she was having a baby in 3 months and wasn't ready :) a year later they had another baby(her age 44/46)...so now I have cousins that are closer to my own kiddos ages :) Keep positive and think outside the box...I'm sure you've heard it before, but when you aren't wishing/stressing on it soo hard..it happens!!!
God bless,C.

Have you found out why you are miscarrying so that the issue can be addressed.
I think once you address the why...there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to go through with a successful pregnancy.

If it is not a genetic probalem with the fetus or hormonal issue-I used to work for a physical therapist that had successfully helped every women who came to her have a successful pregnancy. Sometimes it is the arrangememt of your insides that is the problem. And a specialized PT can help with that issue.

Good luck to you!

HI,
yes, i have been where you are. I have had 3 miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy. Have you used clomid? or ovudrill? My doctor put me on thyroid meds saying i had hypothyroidism causing my miscarriages. Then i used metformin (the drug used for diabetes) i used it to lower my estrogin levels. Then started clomid and on the 13th day i was given a shot of ovudrill. It may sound like alot but i have a healthy 7 year old son and another child on the way. It's not for everyone, but i want you to know there is hope. absolute hope! I don't know which doctor you use, but i highly, really, truly recommend Dr. Robin Hilsenrath. I hope this helps and don't ever give up on your dream for a family!

I see you've got some great advice, including mentions of baby aspirin therapy, which is how a friend of mine sustained her only 4 pregnancies which she carried to term. But of course you need to find out if that applies to you.
I also saw you got some references to good internet help. I'll add www.spals.org, it stands for subsequent pregnancy after loss, but you don't have to be pregnant to join. You will read some sad stories of losses farther along than miscarriages, so if you want to protect yourself from that don't join, or read selectively (often people write subject headings that let you know that loss is mentioned), but it is an amazing group of women where you can get a tremendous amount of info.
Good luck!

Do you have a doctor who is testing WHY you are losing your pregnancies? Is it low progesterone, do you have the clotting issue(can't remember the name of that) but i had it and i had to take injections everyday. But at least they found the cause after my first loss. I suggest my doctor Daniel Roshan. He will do every test and and takes every precaution. rosh maternal fetal medicine. find it on the web. good luck

I was just at a meeting where the speaker had suffered miscarraiges due to low progesteronelevels that would not sustain the pregnancy. I don't know if this is your issue - but they have a beautiful 4 year old - the only thing that was different was using these products
http://www.shaklee.net/healthmatters4u/product/vitalizerIron

They must have balanced the system. I don't know if you would have the same success, but they certainly would do no harm.

I have a friend who just gave birth to a baby after having several miscarry (even after 12 weeks) so son't worry. Just go to the doctor and get tests done to determine why your body is rejecting the fetus.

Hi R.,

I'm so sorry for what you've been through. I know how devastating it is to miscarry. Each time you learn you are pregnant, you have great hope, but also that terrible fear that you will miscarry again. I had two miscarriages before my son was born in 2006. Then I had another one before successfully conceiving my daughter, who is now 9 months old. It wasn't three in a row, but it was similar and I have been fortunate enough to still have two children. Hang in there and try to keep hoping.

My mom lost 3, then had 3 (myself included)! And this was in the 70s with no interventions (not to mention she was 38, 39 and 41 with the three). It may be discouraging, but keep trying. God bless you.

I am so sorry about your losses. I know how devastating a miscarriage - let alone multiple miscarriages - can be. My first child was born still when I was 7 months pregnant and my third pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage at 10 weeks. I was blessed to have a daughter and twin boys thereafter. The only thing that helped me through the devastation and stress was an amazing group of women at a website called SHARE. The website is www.nationalshare.org
They have message boards for all sorts of women... women who are grieving, women who are trying to conceive after a loss, women who are pregnant after a loss, parenting after a loss, and even a section for men.

If you have had 3 losses, have you gone to a specialist? It turned out that I had some blood clotting disorders that they don't routinely check for. It could be you have something like that or something that hopefully is easily rectified.

Good luck and hugs...

I am so sorry to hear of your pain. I had a miscarriage before I had my children and I know how devastating it can be. I did go on to have two children. I've had 3 miscarriages over three years and met many professionals who could not figure out why I couldn't carry to term. I tried ivf...etx every test with no answer. Of course it was devastating but then I was in touch with 2 people who changed it all!!!
Mona lisa schultz (google her for ph #) who is a medical doc and so intuitive she can tell u over a ph consult what is wrong or right w your mind and body. She told me I could have a baby if I go the eastern route. The western docs were overstimulating my body w drugs + hormones + tests which was not conducive to having a baby. The 2nd person I met was aja lee (aijalee.com) she gave me an herbal mix to drink for a week and I now have two kids!!! Both natural pregnancies and deliveries.
A 3 yo girl and a 9 month old boy who are the loves of my heart!!!

Call them both! Everyone I referred to these two are now either pregnant or just had babies in past 2 years!!

Stay positive!

Love to you and your future as a mom,
F.

R., I had two miscarriages so far and it's painful, emotionally, psychologically and physically. I know. The first time, I didn't really know I was pregnant. What happened was I was two weeks late and when I tested it with take home pregnancy test, it was negative and right after, I bled a lot with horrible pains and didn't know why at the time and no one told me anything and my mom had alzheimer's so, it was hard to ask her. Then, a month later, I conceived with my oldest and had two more boys after and then recently miscarried and knew I was pregnant, but the baby didn't survive past 7 weeks. The re could be a genetic thing, but it could also mean, they weren't meant to live and why, only God knows. Listen, don't give up. This is not the time to give up but ask God what it is you to learn from this and use this experience to help out and help you to grow and be strong and perhaps if you can't ever get pregnant ever thought of adoption? I know they are expensive, but trying fostering and then see if it leads to adoption. I told my husband if I can't get pregnant again, I want to adopt and then try adopting a girl would be nice, but again I don't know if it's God's Will for us. We know that there are many people who are childless and could invest their time helping others with babysitting etc. There are advantages of not being a parent o a child through having your own or adoption, but you can parent others believe it or not. You have aexperiences you can help others who go through miscarriages and keep your chin up and I pray for you. My parents were married for three years and then conceived me. There are reasons for everything and keep your head up and if you want to talk or whatever it may be, I'm here and let me know....
