Stroller Support!

Dear Ladies,

I am in desperate need for advice on buying the right stroller. My daughter arrived early and we were not ready, I was in the hospital and my husband rushed out and picked up the nearest travel system he could find, so that we would have a car seat to take our daughter home in. My poor husband bought the Winnie the Pooh travel system which I HATE. I guess he went with the idea that the theme in nursery is Winnie the Pooh. So, now I am consumed by strollers and desperatly want a stroller which is more reflective of me.

I am overwhelmed with stroller options, my daughter is still using the infant car seat which I can put up with until she is ready to move into a convertable car seat, however the stroller has to be replaced. I keep coming across strollers that state (Infant up to 45 pounds), is it really the case that I will need to replace the stroller or is that a marketing ploy? My biggest argument with my husband is that a stroller is for life and therefore should be something that I am comfortable with, it won't stick if I have to replace it again!

Please HELP!

Thanks

What can I do next?

LOL! I am laughing reading this because wow, we thought just one stroller for life was it too. Now we have a collection.

I have a maclaren that i use for everyday errands, and would never give away. I have my graco travel system which was great with the infant seat, and for longer trips like the zoo and such, but so bulky to just run into the store with. Now we are looking at Jogging strollers, and I'm due in Nov, so we are needing doubles of everything! Good luck!

Oh, and as far as the weight thing goes, most strollers only go up to 45 lbs. The maclaren goes to 55. HOwever, we have a 5 yr old around the house that is a tall lanky thing, and shes only 42 lbs. They don't hit that 45 mark overnight by any means.

You do not need to buy a stroller right away. There are metal frames that the car seat can be attached to like a stroller (it is like a stroller, but it is just the frame. This would give you more time to decide what type of stroller that you would like. With the car seat, I like Graco snug ride. They have one of the best crash test ratings. Hope this hepls.

I understand your stroller dilema. Something you might not have thought of is that the weight limit of 45 pounds is probably pretty accurate. My daughter is 4 1/2 and weighs 36 pounds. She will not sit in a stroller these days for more than 10 minutes at the longest. If you consider that a six year old child will probably weigh 45 pounds...you would get your money's worth either way. I hope this helps.

I bought the step down from a BugaBoo. The Bugaboos are about 8 or 900 dollars but they are excellent. I found pretty much the exact same thing for about 500 called a Rockstar Baby Stroller. I LOVE my rockstar stroller. You'd have to get it at a USABaby though so just look it uo. If not one of those I say Maclaren. I love my umbrella stroller thats a MacLaren. Good Luck! :D

I had a travel system for about a month or so- it was so heavy and cumbersome (and I had a small car that it wouldn't fit into the trunk- got rid of the car and the stroller). Anyway, I ended up getting a Peg Perego Aria. It is light weight- under 10 pounds, and not so bulky- but looks like a travel system stroller. It has an attachment strap that connects to my carrier so my son can still stay in the carseat until he is able to sit up on his own- at which point I just take the strap out! I get the best of both worlds- a light weight stroller and a stroller more sturdy than an umbrella. By the time he is 45 pounds- he should be more than able to walk every where on his own.

But I agree with the other moms- test them out and find which one works for you. And you may need more than one stroller- we have our Aria, a jogger, and a bike stroller (attaches to our bikes)

Hi A.,

Sorry to tell you this, yes, you might have to buy more than one stroller. Here's what I did for my girls:
- I used the universal stoller frame for the first 4-5 months. This is just a frame that you snap the baby carrier into. It's very light weight and great for getting in and out of the car and stores.
- I had a Graco stroller that matched my baby carrier. And although I would love to have the latest and greatest every time, I still use my Graco and it's 5 years old! I do not find it heavy or cumbersome. My oldest, who is 5, only weigh's 40lbs. She is not thin by any means... she's a very athletic ball of muscles.

You can drive yourself crazy by looking at every stroller out there. In the end you have to decide what works best for you and cope with the idea that you might own more than one stroller throughout your daugther's life.

Go out and see the strollers for yourself. Test them around the store and find one you like. Then go home and check out reviews online and make a decision.

Good luck!

I invested in the bugaboo and I have loved it. You can buy a infant carrier adapter for it, for Graco or Peg Pregos. It comes with either a bassinett option when they're young like your daughter, then you can make it a chair as she grows. It is great if you're hitting the streets a lot. When I travel to London for business, almost every parent I see has one.
