My 16 month old daughter seems to have a stomach virus. Today she started vomiting every hour or so and she also has VERY runny diarrhea. I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is going around right now...if so, how long does it seem to last and what do you suggest to treat it, or deal with it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, it was definitely a stomach virus, it passed through our whole family. It seemed to only last 24 hours or so, but it was miserable. Thanks for the mom's who gave me the heads-up.

Yep, my three-year-old had it yesterday. He stopped vomiting by mid-day but then had diarrhea in the afternoon/evening. He seems to be okay today.

Hi C.,

This is the worst bug I think my kids both got it about 2 weeks ago. It started with my 2 year old and a few days later my 9 month old got it. I took them to the Dr. and they actually had to give my 2 year old a shot because she was vomiting every 5 to 15 mins for almost 11 hours straight. My 9 month old was okay I just cut out the milk because they say that upsets their stomach even more. Push fluids they say watered down gatorade or popsicles because they have some calories are best cut out solids and they told me if she can get at least 2 tsp every 15 min she wont get dehydrated. My daughter wouldn't drink anything so I used one of those medicine things and filled it up and kinda had to force her to drink it. But watch for signs like no tears when she crys. or no wet diapers in more than 8 hours or no saliva really sunken in eyes. Giving her a luke warm bath can help too. It helps relax them but also their skin will soak up some water as well. With both of my kids the first day was the worst they were still a little sick but I'd say within 2 or 3 days you should notice a difference. Hope this helps GOOD LUCK!

My almost 4 year old had this same stomach virus about 2 weeks ago with the vomiting and diarrhea. Unfortunately it just has to run it's coarse. The only that that I can recommend it to push fluids as much as possible. Juice, milk, popsicles, soup broth, even jello and don't forget the extra TLC. Good luck and I know much it sucks.

My 4 year old had vomiting and diarrhea for about 24 hours last week, then my 2 year old has had diarrhea for a couple days, starting about 4 days after his brother. Fortunately, this seems to be a short-lived one. They've had it as long as 10 days once before!

My friend that lives in Boulder told me her daughter had some virus that was going around up there big time. Same symptoms and it was something that was on and off for a week. Not sure if it is the same bug, I hope not. Keep her hydrated big time.

Last week both our kids threw up once, and the baby had diarrhea for about 4 days. Neither one seemed to miserable other than that. As for stomach bugs, what we had seemed pretty mild.
