Spray on Tans

My daughter has her Prom this weekend and she is planning on getting an airbrush tan. This is different than a spray on tan. Anyone have any recommendations or advise on this subject. I told her she should have had it done a few weeks ago for a "test run". It makes me nervous - I would hate for it to be a big mistake.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It was wonderful. Thank you for the posts. My daughter was very pale but looked beautiful like that, this just added a touch of color. You could hardly tell but it made a difference (natural glow). My youngest daughter is dark naturally and will probably want lighter skin. Crazy how it works with females!!!!

I have a good friend of mine who is a professional permanent Makeup artist and she also does airbrushed makeup and tans. She comes to New Braunfels but lives in Rockport, Tx. She gave me an airbrushed tan when she got her new spray apparatus and it was perfect for this pale skin of mine. Didn't last long past the first shower but it would be great for a prom. Call me at ###-###-#### if you want contact information for Debbie.

I use the mystic tan but find it smells. It is a spray on though. Never had airbrush.

Airbrush tan gives a nicer finish...but if she has never used any fake tanner/or has especially pale skin...I would be leary. I would hate for her to be orange in her photos!

as far as i know spray on tans you get into that booth. air brushing is done by hand with a special tool. definatly go get a test run before hand that way it has time to lighten if too dark and if not dark enough she can go reapply.

You need to go ti Airbrush Studio of Austin. I go there to get the spray tan and they are wonderful! I've been to Renae. She is very professional and can do different shades, depending how dark you are wanting to get. They have a website, check it out, great deals! She calls you to check up on you and keeps a profile of notes on you. She is wonderful!! I had a big vegas trip and could not have been more satisfied, I think I still have a free session...

I get airbrush tan for everything. I did it in highschool for proms and for my wedding just 2 weeks ago. I can't do tanning beds. She needs to keep it on for at least 8 hours straight before she takes a shower. Then only mild soap, nothing that exfoliates and absolutely no loofa or anything rough. Lots and lots of lotion afterwards, it helps keep the tan longer. After she gets sprayed make sure she checks about every hour for any problems, ecspecially her hands and face as these will be the first to turn orange. I usually wash my hands around 3 hours afterwards and my face around 5 or 6, then shower somewhere between 8 - 10 hours afterwards. Hope this helps!

I love airbrush tans. I've tried both (spray vs. airbrush) and definitely have enjoyed the airbrush tans more. They just look more natural. I have extremely fair skin and don't tan at all, so it's a great way to get some color for a special occasion. I strongly recommend a test run, though. Everyone's skin is a little different. I go to Shelly at Salon Genesis. She's in Spring off Rayford/Sawdust and she does a great job.

I don't know the difference between airbrush/spray on tans. i got what i think was a spray on 4 years ago. It was around $40 for one session. Be the time I got home, most of the tan had rubbed off onto my clothes due to sweating!!
I took my daughter to Glamour Shots and they airbrushed foundation on so if it is the same as that, it was very light and might stay better.
If the cost is below $25, I would say go with it-they can do a test on her belly. Prom only comes once-that is why we did Glamour Shots. But I agree, she should have scheduled a test run.

Don't let your daughter fall into the pay for anything diffrent beauty line. Tanning & skin bleaching are just oppisite sides of the same spectrum. Where grass is always greener on the other side, and the marketing companies keep coming up with ways to make you want (& pay for)what you don't have. By the way skin bleaching is way more expensive than tanning; which means peolpe as dark as your daughter wants to be are using products to look as pale as your daughter actually is. Look up skin bleaching prices & see if this changes your perspective (& hers)on what makes a pretty skin tone.

They work ok...just tell her to moisturize her skin really well at least 10 minutes before she does it. If her skin is moisturized, it will set better and she has a better chance of not having any drips...

Exfoliate before hand, otherwise the tan lines will show up and be darker in dry skin areas, elbows knees, feet, etc.
Good luck!
