Single Mom Looking for Advice on Vacations

If you feel like a weekend trip, Starved Rock was recommended to me by a friend with 2 young children (11 months & 3). It is about an hour away from Chicago. I am planning to take my 10 month old there over the next few weeks. You can Google it.

While I am not a single Mom, I read and article in Parents Magazine about taking vacations at Club Med in Florida. My husband and I are taking our 8 month old son there at the end of the month. It's about an hour from West Palm Beach. The hotel has special things for children 4 months - 17 yrs. You pay a bit extra for access to the Baby program where you can drop your child off any time from 8:30 - 5:00. They provide everything you need for your child -- stroller, bathtub, food..they even have a baby chef. All you need to bring is formula (if you son takes). I know that we wanted to go away somewhere all inclusive but wanted to stay in the states.

That's funny. I'm almost in the same situation you are. I have an 8 month old and am dying to go on vacation to relieve some stress. I would appreciate any advice you might have after you take your vacation break.

Well, as another single mother I have a few thoughts:
1. Convenience-although camping etc sounds fun, having a clean hotel, with ac, ability to wash bottles/spoons etc is important.
2. Have you ever thought of bringing a sitter with you somewhere local? I have also heard of some package places having babysitting options.
3. I found road trips worked well at that age, cuz mine slept so easily.

If you go to the Starved Rock area, you will probably be able to take some awesome outdoor pictures of your little guy. There is a new resort in Utica, it has a water park and stuff, but I'm not sure if there are baby related water activities.

We went to Milwauskee, Sheboygan and Kohler, Wi when our son was almost 1. We stayed in Milwaukee a night or two and went to the Milwaukee zoo. We then went up towards Sheboygan & Kohler, more for ourselves, but you can walk down by the lake, there is a park on lakeshore, and a beach, or go to the shops in Kohler. There are also shops on the boardwalk in town... can't think of the name off hand where the lake is... having a mental pregnancy moment.

Kind of quiet there I guess, but it was a nice relaxing trip. We got a place with a hot tub for ourselves to enjoy also.

We use to go to Lake Geneva. You could always check out lake geneva's website and see what events they have coming up. The Cove looks like a nice place to stay, and the Grand Geneva. There are many places to stay up there.

I am not a single Mom, but at some destinations you can get a good recomendation from the staff for a sitter so that you can do some things on your own. My husband and I took our then 7.5 month old to Anguilla in March, we stayed at the Rendezvous Bay Resort, they have beach side rooms. It was great, we could put our baby down for her nap and still sit on the beach and read/swim. We hired our housekeeper to watch her while we sailed, etc when she got off work at 3pm. Very safe, trustworthy island. Good Luck! C.
