Should We Keep Trying?

OK, moms, I am the mother of a 1.5 year year old girl. I am not getting any younger, I am almost 37 and have been trying for another baby for about 4 or 5 months. What are your thoughts? With all the 'hype' and H1N1 scare, should we hold off until after flu season? Am I being selfish not wanting to wait? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would say yes, keep trying, but as much as you want another baby, try not to stress out about it ... the more you stress out, the harder it will be to conceive. Good luck!

Hello I think your crazy to stop trying if you really want another baby. The H1N1 is a bacteria that enters your system and runs a course like a virus. I think they put too much hype on it. I am 13 weeks pregnant and didnot get imunized because for one its too new. for2 you don't really know whats in those vaccinations what they put in them. 3rd. I want my bidy to be ammune to it so if I do get it I can fight it. My daughter has it right now and I am not worried at all. She is getting better and they do have a medicine to help with it called triamaflu. So If you and your husband really want another baby I think your crazy to wait. Keep trying anf relax no emphasise on it. Good luck

Absolutely you should keep trying. I don't know what the flu season would have to do with not wanting to get pregnant.
I would recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility and/or trying acupuncture if you are having a hard time conceiving. Good luck.

Hi J.---If you and your husband want another baby to love, just keep trying. You shouldn't have to worry about the flu if you are practicing optimal dietary and lifestyle habits. By that I mean eating a diet rich in raw, fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Be sure to minimize animal protein, keeing it to no more than 15-20% of your diet (read the China Study by T Colin Campbell). You should aim for 9-13 servings of f&v each day, if not more. Your husband as well. We want his body to be as healthy as possible too!

Get adequate sleep, exercise, reduce sugar and simple carb intake (sugar makes the immune system lazy) and laugh. Look forward to a positive outcome and you will have one.

If you find it difficult to eat enough fruit and veg, give me a call. I have some great strategies I can share to help with that. I work with a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. So feel free to call. Good luck!

I would say keep trying. My husband and I have been trying for about 9 months and still nothing. I do know that it takes time. I do chart my temps every day, so we know when is the good time to try. at several times we just haven't been together at those times. If you think there is a problem, talk to you doc. But they will tell you to try for a while on your own.

good luck

Definitely keep trying! The H1N1 virus should be gone by spring. You may not even get pregnant until it's all over anyway! And if you do get pregnant before Spring, just get the vaccine. They're saying there will be enough for everyone soon and that the shortage is temporary. Of course they say a lot of things, but really... don't stop trying! Best of luck to you!

If you're in good health, I don't see why you should be considered selish. Get some good, quality vitamins going, make sure your immune system is in top form and why not. It's nuts to beco nstantly scared i nto putting your life on hold.,

I have two grandchildren on the way, and am not fearful of the flu. If you are, get a shot before trying. What concerns me more, who is calling you selfish? And why is hubby refering to you as "a bit crazy"? Worried and anxious yes, but that doesn't mean you should be demeaned. Work on your relationship before bringing another child into the picture. You deserve to be supported, comforted, and understood. Good luck.

regarding the flu.. I would see if you and your daughter could get teh vaccine now.. before you get pregnant.

I had a child at 41.. so keep trying..

i also suggest the take charge of your fertility book..learn to recognize whenyou are fertile.. you might want to get some of those ovulaton predictor sticks.. they are cheap.. and really teach you when you are fertile.

I really only did the sticks for one month then I knew how to tell I was ovulating without the sticks..

It seems like every year there is a "new superbug" that the media and drug companies are hypeing all out of proportion. It really limits the time of "Illness free" time. What is it now? 6 months max? :-) I would keep trying. Could be that you won't get preggers for a few months and won't have to worry about it at all...

Don't base your decision on H1N1, base it on your families wants and needs. I wanted 8 months for #2, just when I was beginning to worry it happened. If your that concerned it might be a problem then go see your doctor and get checked. My friend never had to use birth control because she couldn't get pregnant without taking folic acid for a month, that is quite weird but it a natural product so try it, can't hurt, it gets your body ready for the baby. Good Luck!

Hi J.,
As a woman who is asthmatic, has a heart condition, and is 22 weeks pregnant, I understand your fears over H1N1. I do believe that the virus has been "hyped up," but it is still frightening for me with my "high risk" status. I am doing everything I can (avoiding crowds, hand sanitizer, trying to eat right, sleep) to stay well, but with my daughter in school, there is only so much I can do. That said, I still think you should keep trying if you and your husband want another baby. You will either be pregnant or have an newborn during flu season no matter when you conceive. Don't allow your fears to keep you from your dreams. Blessings on your future.

Sometimes when you want something so bad, you stress yourself out and it doesn't happen. Just take things one day at a time and hopefully it will happen soon for you.

I actually went and got the H1N1 shot and they automatically give you the non-thimersol shot if you are pregnant or could be pregnant. (Thimersol is controversal b/c some studies have concluded that it could cause autism in children...other studies haven't.) Your child would also recieve the non-thimersol.

Just relax and everything will happen when its supposed to.

Good Luck!

The choice of wanting to have another child is entire up to you and your partner. If you are having problems - I know that massage does help to relax the body and let nature take it's course (I've seen four clients successful conceive with me and it was a wonderful blessing!).

As for H1N1 or any other health concern - every three to ten years there is some type of pandemic that will surface if you do the research. It all depends on you if you want to buy into the fear.

For my family, we are not jumping on the H1N1 bandwagon as we believe in natural alternatives, hand-washing, sleep, fitness, a healthy diet and avoiding crowds when ill (or if a group is ill) to maintain our health. Positive thinking works wonders and I have experienced it first-hand to know how powerful it is and that is does work.

This is an intimate personal decision that only you and your partner can make - this should not be decided upon us, a group of strangers that you may not know.

Go with your heart. What do you want?
