i am a new sewer and would like to sew some cloth training pants for my son. i have looked online for some ideas but i was going to see if there were any classes that i could take or anyone that can help with hands on work? i have my fabric and sewing machine i am just not sure how to start. thanks i know it might be cheaper to buy them but those will not keep anything in at night for my son. so i need something like a pull up for nights.

I have been a seamstress since I was 10 and I found the samething, it was easier to buy them. In order to get the same leak proof absorbancy mine were too thick and hot for her to wear.

If you want to make "cuter" pants.. I understand that ..

but gerber training pants are for sale at target and walmart... $6.99 for 3 pairs...nice and thick.. we have 12 pairs and they are holding up to many many washes..

I taught myself to sew after I could not find sewing classes in my area. I found Simplicity Sewing Patterns for Dummies to be great and easy to understand. You can go online to their website and see if they have patterns for cloth training pants. I know that they have clothing for kids because I love making holiday pants for my boys.

If you need more advise I would be happy to talk to you more, just email me a private message.

Good luck!

I am a sewer... I would not sew my own. It costs less to buy it.

The "Gerber Training Pants" are all cotton and slightly padded in the middle for absorption of leaks/urine.... and comes in a 3-pack. Walmart or Amazon or E-bay has it.
It does not cost much.... like about $6.99-7.99 for a 3 pack.
Both my kids used those when they were at that stage. Its great.

If you sew it yourself, I would buy one from a store, take it apart... if you can... then make a pattern from it, to make your own.
that is the best way. Or find a pattern in a shop.
I have done that too, for underwear.

If you are not a solid proficient sewer, or even if you are, it will take trial and error, and making several, until you get the final prototype, for how you want it or what you expect. Thus, you will end up buying lots more fabric and supplies, just to make 1 training pant.

all the best,
Susan
