Hello,

I am a mom who is looking for an alternative to a crib for my 6 week old infant. My husband and I live in a one bedroom condo. A crib won't fit into our room. Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives to put the baby in? Sure would appreciate what you might know or might have tried.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello everyone. Thanks so much to everyone for your feedback. It was very helpful. I ended up getting the Graco Devon Pack n Play. I love it. It is what I needed.

Thanks again.

You could co-sleep (actually let the baby sleep in the bed with you) and then you don't have to buy anything extra.

I like the little Moses basket thing. I didn't get to use one with my little one, but you can just pick it up and move them without waking the baby up.

We used a pack and play for awhile with our daughter. They're smaller than a crib and lots of them have a bassinet attachment. You can also use it after the baby is too big for the bassinet. The only problem I have with it is that the "mattress" seems really hard.

Definitely get a co-sleeper- they have two sizes, you can get them at Babies R Us. The baby can sleep next to your bed within arms reach if you want. Our daughter slept in that for four months. It was great and small-since our bedroom is very little.

get a pack n play with a bassinet attachment (graco). They are foldable and the baby can stay in it for quite a while.

I remember when we were shopping for my son and saw these really small cribs. I just looked them up and they are called mini-cribs. Looks like it may be a nice option.

I used the Travel Lite:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2624760
It is half the price of the Arm's Reach co-sleeper, and works just as well.
Now that my daughter is almost 14 months old, I have it in my bathroom so she can sit in it while I dry my hair and brush my teeth.
I have a full-sized Pack and Play downstairs and I love that even better if you have room for it.
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2813888
It has a changing table, diaper storage, and bassinet in it.
My daughter is a very tall 14 month sold and she still cannot climb out of it. She's not in it often, but it is big enough to put a bunch of toys in and keeps her happy and busy (and away from the stove) while I make dinner.

The small bassinets are fine as well, you just run out of a use for them so quickly. I like that I can still use the stuff I have. The full sized pack and play is easy to fold and can work well as a travel crib for even bigger kids.
Both come in a bunch of different colors, those were just the links I could find quickly.

Congrats on the new baby!!!

We used a co-sleeper and LOVED it! You can attach it to your bed or you can put the side up and make it into a "bassinet." We used it as the co-sleeper for about four months while I nursed and then converted it to a bassinet and put it at the end of our bed after that.

We loved our Amby baby hammock, and were able to use it until about 8 months old. Very easy to travel with, and as a bonus the baby rocks himself or herself back to sleep. They are also supposed to help prevent reflux and colic and head deformity (which was the reason we got ours since my first son had both the colic and the head deformity.) It takes up less room that a crib, and it's very light so you can just move it out of the way when it's not being used.

When we were done with it, we passed it along to a friend who also swears it's the best baby bed ever.

Hello,

When mine were little I used the basinet. My sister used something that I wish I would of had. It is called a Co-sleeper. It attaches right to your mattress at the smae time keeping them in there own space but with in arms reach of you. My sister loved hers and used it with both of her kids. I know they sell them at Target and Babies R Us. Below I provided the link to the one at Babies R Us.

I think that the orginal one is the better buy. Called my sister and she said she bought the original and here is the link to that one..

Good luck and hope it works out for you and congrats!

have you tried the baby bed taht actually attaches to your bed, that way the baby can safely sleep with you, close to mommy--it's great, I saw the item being sold in a catlog--I think it was first steps...good luck.
