Seeking Other Moms of Asperger's Children

Hello, there!

I'm looking for other moms who have children with Asperger's. My daughter is 14 years old and is an Aspie. I am a single mom in Hazlet.

My other concern is this: Nicole had oral surgery today and then I was told that her tooth is very high up in her mouth and is coming in sideways - the surgeon has to go in and tie a 24 Kt gold chain around the tooth and work with the orthodontist to pull the tooth down and out. Has anyone else experienced this?

My daughter had a similar problem with her eye tooth. What tey did was pull one of her teeth, then the oral surgeon cut the gum and they gradually worked the tooth down. The then shifted her teeth with braces and eventually her wisdom tooth became her molar. The benefit was that she did not have to have a wisdom tooth removed (which we all know is very painful.)

Hi. My name is Kim and I am new here. I have a 9 year old with Aspergers and he has two of his bottom teeth coming in under his tongue....we call him shark and he gets a kick out of it....my husband had to have his front upper teeth pulled down when he was a kid during oral surgery...they were very high up and coming in sideways...I know he said they used some short of twine or rope to loop onto the teeth and pull them down...he remembers it because his father took him out for a big breakfast before surgery and the dentist could not knock him out and used local anastesia (sp?) He hates going to the dentist because of it...
My son will have to have a palette spreader, but I am waiting until I have more cash on hand to have it doen. Our insurance only covers a bit of the expense...Good luck with your daughters surgery.

Hi

I know what you are talking about with your daughters teeth. There was talk about that for my daughter, because her eye teeth couldn't come down because her other teeth where in the way. The ortho didn't rush it, we waited awhile, and eventually they came down on their own. I think when the teeth just can't come down on their own they use the chains.

Hi D.,
I know you posted this in Dec and I am now just catching up. I just signed on yesterday. I have a 5 year old with extreme sensory Intergration issues. It seems that he needs reevaluation at this point. He is showing signs of Asperger's. So if you would like to talk at anytime let me know.

My son is almost 13 and has Aspergers, ADHD, CP, and OCD.

When he was born,I was told that he would never walk or talk, and now he does not sit down or be quiet very often! I quit work to stay home with him, got him early intervention, and was lucky enough to have a wonderful aunt and Godmother who told me that we were not going to listen to what the doctors said about my son. With her help, love, guidance, and a lot of work and prayer he is also a straight A student, now that he is in a school that is able to understand his needs and behaviors and work with him instead of labeling him a discipline problem.

We live in the Town of Binghamton. I went back to school and work once Matthew was able to attend preschool and I am now a Certified Medical Assitant.

Our friends often laugh at us as I believe that children's lives should be full of the love for animals. We currently have 3 dogs, 2 kittens, and a hamster.

That exact thing happened to me as a kid! I was about that age too I guess 14 or so when my orthodontist realized my eye tooth was a baby tooth, not an adult tooth. They first pulled the baby tooth and hoped the adult tooth would do the work of moving down all by itself, three months later...still no tooth, so then they drilled a hole to the adult tooth (which was closer to my sinuses than it was to my mouth) and glued a plastic chain to it and attached the the chain to my braces and slowly pulled the tooth down. I remember it was very painful. Saltwater rinses help keep it clean. I am 37 now and all I can say is there appears to be a receeding gum at the sight of that tooth...it is more prominant than the other teeth. I have NEVER run into anyone with that problem before! Just make sure the oral surgeon does it right the FIRST time. It was pretty painful. Good Luck to your daughter!
